Lights.

Let's Talk in English.
Hey, everyone, and welcome to LTE TV.
We're very glad you could join us here today.
My name is Gabe.
And my name is Andrea.
Well, today we continue talking about the beach.
But we are going to look at some activities at the beach.
That's the title of our lesson.
Activities at the Beach.
Now can you think of some activities that you can do at the beach?
Gabe, can you think of something?
Well, yes. You can play a game called "veach bolleyball." I mean, beach
volleyball.
Those V's and those B's.
What else can you do at the beach?
Ooh, you can also fly a kite.
You can look for shells.
Oh, wow, there are so many different activities that you can do at the beach.
Well, we have more to learn and more to talk about.
So let's go to Conversation A.
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Let's Talk!
Today we're talking about activities at the beach.
And we have a special guest.
Let's welcome Beach Bill!
So, Beach Bill, how often do you go to the beach?
I go every day! I live at the beach!
You must enjoy swimming.
Of course!
But there are lots of other things to do at the beach.
Like what?
I play sports like volleyball and Frisbee.
Does your beach have a volleyball net?
No, but I have my own net.
Rob starts with a question for Beach Bill.
He asks, "How often do you go to the beach?" How often do you go to the beach?
Well, Beach Bill goes to the beach every day.
Why? He lives at the beach.
Wow! It would be nice to live at the beach.
Well, let's look at this question.
How often do you do something?
How often do you go to the mall?
How often do you go out to eat?
How often do you call your mom?
Let's ask Gabe one of these questions.
Gabe, how often do you check your e-mail?
How often do I check my e-mail?
Not very often.
I check my Facebook more than I check my e-mail.
Andrea, how often do you check your e-mail?
I check my e-mail at least once a day.
I often check it a lot more than that.
OK. So how often do you do something?
You can ask someone this question today.
Well, I think it's great that Beach Bill goes to the beach every day, that he
lives there.
And what does he do at the beach?
Well, he tells us that he plays sports like volleyball and Frisbee.
Let's talk about this sport, volleyball.
It's a key word.
You can play volleyball at the beach or you can play it on a volleyball court.
To play volleyball, you usually need about five people on your team.
And you use a ball that goes over a net to the team on the other side.
I like playing volleyball, but I'm not very good.
Each team has a chance to hit the ball three times before going over the net.
And you can't let the ball hit the ground.
So it's not an easy sport.
But it's very fun, especially when you are playing beach volleyball.
Yes, beach volleyball is fun.
Of course, you need to have a ball, a beach volleyball, and you need a net.
We need to talk about this key word.
net.
When you are playing volleyball, the net shows the division or the place between
the two teams.
And you have to have the ball go over the net.
There are many sports that use nets.
Volleyball is one.
Pingpong is another... or table tennis.
Of course, tennis is another sport that uses a net.
What other sports use a net?
Hmm, think about that question.
Now let's continue with Conversation B.
What can you do at the beach besides play volleyball and Frisbee?
I like to fly a kite. That's really fun.
Do you ever build sandcastles?
Sure! And I also build animals, cars and other things out of sand!
Wow! What else do you do?
I walk along the beach and look for shells.
It's a relaxing way to spend a day at the beach!
What else can you do at the beach?
Or what can you do at the beach besides play volleyball and Frisbee?
Well, something you can do is fly a kite.
That can be fun.
And these are our key words: fly and kite.
When you fly something, that means you are making it fly in the air, or you're
helping it to stay in the air.
You fly a kite.
Now, when can you fly a kite?
Well, it's very good to fly a kite on a windy day.
The wind keeps the kite in the air.
And the wind helps the kite fly.
And "kite" is another key word.
The kite is what you use to fly.
It's flat.
It can be made with paper or other things.
It's very light so that it can stay in the air.
And I have seen some very beautiful kites flying in the air.
I agree.
Some kites have many different colors.
Some of them look like animals or other shapes.
It's beautiful to watch a kite flying in the sky.
Of course, if you want to fly a kite, something very important is the string.
If you let go of the kite, it won't fly anymore.
You need to hold onto the string and let the kite fly.
It is beautiful.
Well, we have another key word here.
Something else you can do at the beach is collect, or look for, shells.
"Shell" is the key word.
And a shell, it's hard like a rock.
But it's beautiful.
And you can really only see them at beaches or places with water.
Yeah. Now shells, when they are in the ocean or in the water, usually have life
in them.
A small animal lives in the shell.
But when the animal is not in the shell anymore, the shells are often on the
beach.
And some of them are very beautiful.
You can see them and even collect shells that you find on the beach.
Well, I want to take some time right now to say something with you.
Say it with me.
She sells seashells by the seashore.
Can you say that?
I can.
OK.
S... Oh, sh... No, I'll say... I'll try it.
She sells seashells by the seashore.
Wow, that's not easy to say.
That was good.
Let's say it again with everybody.
She sells seashells by the seashore.
Good job.
That is called a tongue twister.
It's a good way to practice your pronunciation in English.
She sells seashells by the seashore.
Well, you know what all of our key words mean.
Let's see them again in our Read It paragraph.
What can you do at the beach besides swimming or resting in the sun?
There are many other fun activities.
Try playing beach volleyball.
All you need is a ball and a net.
Or bring a Frisbee and play Frisbee with your friends.
If you want to do something more relaxing, build a sandcastle or fly a kite.
Or you can look for shells.
There's always something fun to do at the beach!
There is always something fun to do at the beach.
And of course, we talked about many of those fun things today.
You can play volleyball.
You can fly a kite.
You can swim in the ocean or lie on a towel on the sand.
There's always something fun to do at the beach.
Let's use this phrase in another way.
There's always something fun to do when you are with friends.
There's always something fun to learn on Let's Talk in English.
There's always something good to do at the end of our show.
So let's review our key words together right now.
The first one is: volleyball.
When you play volleyball, you hit a ball with your hands and arms.
Whoa.
net.
net.
Hit the ball over the net.
fly.
It's windy today. Let's fly a kite!
kite.
Look at all the kites in the sky!
shell.
Look at this beautiful shell. I found it on the beach.
Well, now it's time for us to go and continue learning with Christina.
(Chinese).
