Lights.
Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone. My name is Andrea.
And my name is Gabe.
And welcome to LTE TV.
We're very glad you could join us here today.
We are going to the beach.
Well, no. Not really.
We are going to be here at LTE TV.
But we want you to learn how to talk about going to the beach in English.
Today's lesson is called: I'm Going to the Beach!
Do you like the beach?
I think the beach is beautiful.
You can see the sea.
You can play in the waves or in the sand.
Of course, you could take your towel and just put it on the sand and lay under
the sun.
It is a wonderful feeling.
Right now it's time for us to talk about all of these key words and listen for
them in today's conversations.
Here we go.
Hi, Susie.
Hi, Ken. What are you doing this weekend?
I'm going to the beach on Saturday!
That sounds fun!
I love the beach.
I like to be near the ocean or the sea.
Me too!
I like to walk in the sand along the water.
Which beach are you going to?
I'm going to Whitehead Beach with some friends.
Hey, Gabe, what are you doing this weekend?
What am I doing this weekend?
I'm going to climb a waterfall with my friends.
It'll be really cool.
Wow!
Oh, yeah.
Andrea, what are you doing this weekend?
What am I doing this weekend?
Well, I'm going to visit another city with my family.
What are you doing this weekend?
You ask this question when you want to find out what someone's plans are for the
weekend.
Well, what is Ken doing this weekend?
We find out that Ken is going to the beach on Saturday.
We are going to talk about this key word.
beach.
I love going to the beach.
It's a place that has sand.
It's a place that has water.
It's a place to relax and enjoy being outside.
Do you like going to the beach?
I love the beach.
I love playing in the ocean.
And I love lying out under the sun in the sand.
I also like beach games.
There are many things you can do at a beach.
You can play beach volleyball.
Ultimate Frisbee is one of my favorite sports.
I can play that at the beach too.
What do you like to do at the beach?
Well, that sounds like fun.
Susie agrees with Ken.
She says, "I love the beach.
I like to be near the ocean or the sea." And many beaches are near the ocean or
the sea, or on the ocean or the sea.
The ocean is a place that has a lot of water.
There are some big oceans in the world.
"Sea" is a key word.
And a sea is like the ocean, but smaller.
So have you been to the sea?
You can talk about the seaside.
That is anything that is along the sea.
Seaside.
Or maybe you're on a boat, and it's going very fast, and you're not used to it.
You might get seasick, S-E-A-S-I-C-K.
It's not fun being seasick.
No, it... it's not fun being seasick.
But it is fun to look at another key word.
And that word is "sand." Now when you go to the beach, you probably see sand.
Most beaches have sand.
Some beaches have very white sand.
Some beaches even have black sand.
Sand is many very small pebbles or very small rocks that make a place.
And earlier this year, I went to Sydney, Australia, to a place called Bondi
Beach.
It was a beach with lots of white sand.
And it was so comfortable to walk on.
The sand was not hot.
Some beaches have very hot sand.
I don't like that.
But I loved this beach's sand in Australia.
Oh, wow! That sounds wonderful, Gabe.
Well, thank you for listening to us.
Now it's time to listen to Conversation B.
Whitehead Beach is a great place!
Do you like to play in the waves there?
Yes! I cool off in the ocean.
Then I sit on the beach and read or talk with my friends.
I do that too.
I sit on the sand and rest in the sun.
Well, actually, I sit on a towel.
That is more comfortable.
The sand can be really hot!
Well, earlier in this conversation, Susie says, "Do you like to play in the
waves?" Do you like to do something?
Let's practice this sentence together.
Do you like to read books, or do you like to watch movies?
Do you like to eat spaghetti, or do you like to eat dumplings?
Do you like to play in the sand at a beach, or do you like to swim in the ocean
or in the sea?
Do you like to practice English with a friend, or do you like to practice
English by yourself?
Do you like to do something?
And the question here is: Do you like to play in the waves.
Oh, yeah. The waves can be a lot of fun at the ocean.
"Wave" is also a key word.
Wave or a wave is a part of the water in the ocean.
The waves come on to the beach, and they move.
So it looks like a wave.
Yeah. When you look at the ocean, it kind of looks like the water's going up and
down, up and down.
And it's the waves that are making the water look like that.
Now waves are fun to play in.
But you also want to be careful if you are in the water and there are many big
waves.
Just stay safe when you are playing or swimming in the waves.
That's right.
And if you are a little tired of playing in the waves, and you just want to
relax, you can go on the beach and sit on your beach towel.
"Towel" is another key word here.
You use a towel to dry off after you take a bath or take a shower.
But of course, you might get wet in the sea, and so you bring your towel to the
beach too.
Yes. So you can use your towel after you come out of the ocean or the sea.
Or you can use a towel just to sit on it and relax.
Sometimes the sand is really hot, so you need a towel to be able to sit or even
stand on the sand.
And there are different kinds of towels.
We just talked about a beach towel.
That's a big towel that you need for the beach.
But if you're in your bathroom and you just washed your hands, you can use a
hand towel to dry your hands.
Or, if you just finished cleaning the dishes in the kitchen, you use a small
dish towel to dry off the dishes.
There are different kinds of towels.
Well, we do have more to learn in our Read It paragraph.
Do you want to do something fun this summer?
Then go to a beach!
You can swim and cool off in the ocean or the sea.
You can play in the waves.
You can put a towel on the sand and rest on it.
You can read a book or just nap.
You can do many things at the beach.
Well, my question for you is: What do you like to do in the summer?
There are lots of things you can do.
Do you like to travel in the summer?
Do you like to go to the beach in the summer?
I like to climb waterfalls and jump off into water in the summer.
What do you like to do in the summer?
Something you can do is go to a beach and get out of the water and cool off.
Our Read It says you can swim and cool off in the ocean or the sea.
When you cool off, that means you were feeling hot, but you did something to
make you feel cooler.
You cool off.
Well, I think it's time for us to review our key words, Andrea.
The first one is: beach.
Let's go to the beach and swim!
sea.
A sea is smaller than an ocean.
sand.
There is a lot of sand at the beach.
wave.
Look at the big waves in the ocean!
towel.
I'm wet. I need a towel.
And we need to learn more right now with Christina.
(Chinese).
