Let's Talk.
In English.
I'm Gabe.
And I'm Andrea.
And we are glad that you are here with us today.
We are going to continue to talk about jobs.
The title of our lesson is: Tell Me About That Job.
Tell Me About That Job.
If you are interested in someone's job, you can say this.
Tell me about that job.
Or, tell we about your job.
Well, we don't want to tell you too much about our lesson today.
But we can tell you that you will be prepared to use the key words.
You might have to do some homework.
Maybe even take a little quiz.
But all that you need to know is in your magazine.
So please open your magazine.
Are you prepared? Yes?
Let's begin today's lesson.
What exactly do some people do at work?
You think some jobs are easy.
But they are actually a lot of work!
Think about your teacher.
She doesn't just teach your class.
She plans her lessons before she teaches.
She checks homework.
She grades tests and quizzes.
She helps choose good books, magazines and other resources for you.
She wants to help you learn.
So she spends a lot of time preparing for class.
I like the first question in our Read It.
What exactly do some people do at work?
We all have different jobs.
We are learning about different jobs.
But sometimes it's hard to know exactly what people do in their jobs.
So our Read It helps us understand what teachers do.
So Gabe, what is something that a teacher does?
What is something that a teacher does?
A teacher teaches.
She has a class or he has a class.
And the teacher teaches lessons every day.
And we are going to teach this key word as part of our lesson today.
It is: lesson.
Now a lesson is something that your teacher teaches you.
A lesson is what you learn in class.
That's right.
But a teacher doesn't just teach a lesson.
The teacher also plans that lesson.
It takes time to plan a lesson and to think about what the lesson should be,
how she wants to teach, or what he wants to say during the class.
It's not easy to plan a lesson.
That is true. It takes a lot of time.
Giving homework can also be part of a teacher's lesson.
Teachers give homework for special reasons, not just because they want students
to have something to do.
Let's talk about this key word.
homework.
Homework is work that you do when you are at home.
Well, the word tells us what it is.
But remember the difference between homework and housework.
Homework is work that you do to help understand a lesson at school.
Housework is work that you do to keep your house clean.
That's right. Maybe you want to help your mom clean the table or sweep the
floor.
That is housework.
But homework is what you take home from school.
And like Andrea said, homework is very important.
It's there for a reason.
It's not always fun.
I don't always enjoy doing homework.
I did not like doing homework.
But of course, it helped me to get better in each of my classes.
Well, that's the same with quizzes.
People don't like taking quizzes.
But they help you learn.
Let's learn this key word.
quiz.
A quiz is a small test or short test that you teacher gives you to make sure
that you understand her lessons.
And sometimes my teachers would give us pop quizzes, P-O-P quiz.
That means we did not know there would be a quiz.
We just walked into class, and the teacher said, "OK, there's a quiz today."
That's called a pop quiz.
Pop quiz! Pop quiz for Gabe!
Oh, no.
Gabe, what is our next key word?
Uh... I know it.
It is "magazine." Am I right?
I guess you are right.
Maybe you looked at your magazine to find it.
I did my homework.
Good job.
Let's Talk in English is a magazine.
A magazine is like a book with pictures and stories and things that you can
learn.
There are so many different kinds of magazines.
Let's Talk in English magazine helps you prepare as you learn English.
That's right.
Do you have your Let's Talk in English magazine?
It does help to have something to look at while you listen to a lesson.
That's why we have magazines for you.
And of course, it's important to prepare.
"Prepare" is a key word.
When you prepare for something, that means you are planning it.
Well, we hope that our time together help prepare you to learn more with
Christina.
(Chinese).
Some people have hard jobs.
You're right. Teachers have hard jobs.
Really? What exactly do teachers do?
Teachers plan the lessons.
Oh, yeah, yeah. What else?
Teachers check homework.
Oh, yeah. What else?
Teachers grade tests and quizzes.
And they help you choose good books and magazines.
Oh, yeah. A teacher's job is a lot of work.
But some jobs are easy.
Really? What job is an easy job?
Your job!
Let's review today's key words together.
This is one of my favorite parts of our lesson.
And our key word is: lesson.
lesson.
Today's lesson starts on page 17.
homework.
homework.
Give your homework to the teacher.
quiz.
quiz.
Our teacher gave us a quiz on yesterday's lesson.
magazine.
magazine.
Let's Talk in English is a great magazine!
Ooh, I agree.
Our last key word is: prepare.
prepare.
I need to prepare for my test tomorrow.
Well, let's prepare to learn more.
Are you ready? Good.
Let's go and see the Word Brothers.
Hi, everyone. I'm Jim.
And I'm Tim. We're...
The Word Brothers.
We are similar.
But very different.
Yes, just like some English words.
Right. For example, weak, W-E-A-K.
And week, W-E-E-K.
These two words sound the same.
But they are very different.
Weak, W-E-A-K, means that someone is not very strong.
I can say my brother Jim is very weak.
Hey, I'm not weak!
I'm strong!
I'm just kidding.
Very funny.
OK, friends, let's look at our other word "week," W-E-E-K.
One week is seven days: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and
Saturday.
That's one week.
Are you having a good week?
What is your favorite day of the week?
My favorite day is Saturday.
My favorite day is Saturday too.
Cool!
All right, friends, week.
And weak.
Can you see the difference?
Good. Until next time, this is Tim.
And Jim saying...
Goodbye.
