Let's Talk.
In English.
I'm Andrea.
And I'm Gabe.
We're very glad that you could join us here today on Let's Talk in English.
And we have a very important lesson about Important Jobs.
Now Andrea, what is an important job?
Well, being a teacher is an important job, isn't it?
That's right, being a teacher is important.
It's important to teach what you know to other people.
Of course, being a student is also an important job.
And I'm sure you are doing a great job learning English.
Today we're talking about other important jobs.
Being a police officer.
That's an important job.
Being a firefighter is important.
Being someone who is a garbage collector, someone who helps take out the trash.
That's an important job.
And we're going to learn a lot more from today's lesson.
So let's get started.
Open up your magazine, and let's begin.
Think about some important jobs in your city or town.
Police officers and firefighters have important jobs.
Police officers protect people.
Firefighters do too. They put out fires.
Teachers have an important job too.
They teach young people.
They teach their students important skills.
What about garbage collectors?
They are also important.
They take your garbage away.
Then your neighborhood stays clean.
Well friends, there are lots of important jobs out there.
And we only really get to talk about a few today.
But "job" is an important word to know.
It's a key word.
What is your job?
That's what you do.
That's how you make your money.
Where do you work?
What is your job?
Tell someone about your job.
Yes, this is a good question to ask someone when you are getting to know them.
What is your job?
Or if somebody is younger, you can ask them, "What job would you like to have?"
People often ask children this question.
What job would you like to have someday?
Well, do you have a job right now?
Oh, you do? Great!
I hope you enjoy your job.
And if you don't have a job, think about the job that you would like to do
someday.
Maybe you would like to be a police officer.
Now... now that's an important job. Right, Gabe?
That is an important job.
And of course, these are important words.
police officer.
A police officer is someone who works for your country or for your city.
And they make sure that people are following the rules of the city.
The police officers.
Yes, police officers are there to protect you.
To protect people in a city or in a place or a country.
Are you a police officer?
Well, if you are, thank you for all the hard work you are doing.
It's also nice to thank a police officer if you see them around your city or
town.
And if a police officer sees me, uh, I hope it's for a good reason.
And I hope that you remember that I teach you English right here on Let's Talk
in English.
Of course, it's important to do the right things and to follow the rules.
You don't want to make the police angry.
That is true. And if you don't follow the rules, the police officer might talk
to you.
And you might need to pay some money, right?
That's true. But hey, remember this.
When you're talking about one person, it's a police officer.
But when you are talking about many, you can just say "the police." The police
did this.
Or, the police officer told me this.
Well, we have more to learn here.
Let's take a look at this next key word.
fire.
A fire is really, really hot.
Andrea, do you like fires?
Well, I like fires if they are in a special place.
Yes.
I like to sit around a fire outside and enjoy the heat a fire gives.
But I don't like fires if they are in my house.
That's right. Of course a fire can be really dangerous if it's in your house,
and if it is not in that special place called a fireplace.
Some houses have a fireplace.
But if something happens in your house and it catches on fire, that's really
bad.
And so somebody has to come in and put out the fire.
That person is a firefighter.
A firefighter is another very important job.
Firefighters work very hard to stop the fire, or we say to put out the fire, so
it doesn't cause a lot of damage.
Well, we see one more important job here today, and that is a garbage collector.
Garbage is trash.
It's also a key word here.
It's an important key word.
It's also important to throw out your garbage in the right place.
Don't just throw your garbage on the ground.
That's right, put your garbage in the garbage can.
Or sometimes we also call it a trash can.
Garbage collectors are people who work to take garbage from your home or the
area where you live to the place where garbage is supposed to be.
That's right.
Well, there are many more important jobs out there.
But I know you did a good job right now learning four key words.
And we're going to continue learning more with Christina.
She always does a good job.
(Chinese).
Think about important jobs.
OK. Hmm... Yes, that one. Uh huh, right.
Now tell me who has an important job?
Police officers. They protect us.
Yes, that's important.
And firefighters. They put out fires.
That's important too.
And teachers. They teach us.
And that's important too.
What about garbage collectors?
Hmm, they collect garbage.
That's important too.
Yeah. And what about my job?
Your job? What do you do?
I act like a monkey and make people laugh.
OK, now that is important.
Yeah. Are you laughing?
I am.
OK, let's review our key words.
The first one is: job.
Say it again.
job.
Does Ted work here? What is his job?
police officer.
police officer.
The police officer can help you.
fire.
fire.
Oh, no! There's a fire in the kitchen!
garbage.
garbage.
Can you take the garbage outside?
Well done, everyone!
Now let's enjoy Song Time.
(Music).
