Lights.

Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone, and welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Andrea.
And my name is Gabe.
We have a lesson today called: Social Media Websites: Good or Bad?
So, that's the question.
Are social media websites good, or are they bad?
Well, there are different reasons why they could be good, different reasons why
they might be bad.
We have lots of things to learn today.
I hope you have your magazine.
Open it up to the Read It paragraph for today, and let's begin.
Social media websites have changed the way we communicate.
Is that good or bad? Probably both.
You can share news and photos faster than ever.
And sharing your current location makes it easy to meet with friends.
But sharing a lot of private information could be bad.
People like your boss or co-workers might see information that you don't want
them to know.
Your posts could even put you in danger.
Mean people could see your location and rob your home.
Well, are social media websites good, or are they bad?
Social media websites have changed the way we communicate.
Is it good or bad?
We see a key word here.
"Probably" both.
probably.
This means that it could be something.
Probably good and probably bad.
How else can you use this key word?
You could say, "Probably not." Are you going to the party tomorrow?
Probably not.
Are you going to come and visit me next year?
Probably. I probably will.
It will probably rain today, so take an umbrella.
I'll probably post some pictures online, so check my Facebook later.
Can you use this key word?
You probably can.
You probably can.
I know you can.
Now, social media websites can be good.
But sometimes, if you're not careful, it can be bad.
You don't want to share too much private information.
"Private" is our key word.
It means something like the word we learned yesterday - personal.
Private information is really personal information.
It's not something that you want everybody to know - maybe only a few people.
If you tell someone something that is private, that means you don't want that
person to tell other people about it.
You can make sure by saying "This is private news.
Please don't tell anyone." Or just say, "I have some private things to share."
That means you shouldn't share them with anyone else.
That's right.
And if you do share some of this private information, it could put you or
someone else in danger.
That's not a good thing.
But this is a good key word to know.
danger.
If you are in danger, that means something dangerous might happen to you.
It's not safe.
You are in danger.
It's not safe.
You are in danger.
You want to be careful.
There is danger around us.
But be safe and do your best to stay out of danger.
There're mean people everywhere, so be careful.
Mean people everywhere?
Well, I hope they're not everywhere.
But it's true.
There are some mean people out there who might use your information and do
something bad with it.
"Mean" is a key word.
If you know a mean person, that person's not very nice to you.
They don't say nice things.
They don't do nice things.
Right, mean people do bad things.
They don't try to do good things for people.
And mean people could rob your house.
Well, that's one mean thing that someone could do.
"Rob" is a key word.
Don't do this at home or anywhere.
Don't rob someone else.
That means you take their things.
It's also stealing.
Another word for robbing is stealing something.
Right. So be careful.
We don't want you to be in danger.
Social media sites are good, but we want you to stay safe.
Well, we probably have a lot more to learn.
Well yes, we do have a lot more to learn.
Let's go and see Christina.
Hi, everyone, I'm Christina.
(Chinese).
Stay with us.
Hey, are you on the computer again?
Yes. These websites are great.
Social media has changed the way to communicate.
Yeah. Now you communicate with your computer, and not with me.
I can share news and photos faster now.
Hey, write something about me.
Share my photo.
I'll share my location.
I'm at the Jungle Cafe.
Hey, why did you share that?
Maybe some of my friends will meet me here.
Hey, I want to share things too.
All right, Ginger, I'll let you share too.
Hooray! I'll tell everyone everything about me.
Wait! Don't share too much private information.
That can be dangerous.
Yeah. Don't worry. I won't share my age.
Ladies never do that.
Hey, everyone, let's review our key words now.
The first one is: probably.
Say it again.
probably.
Karen will probably call you tomorrow.
private.
private.
This letter is private. You can't see it.
danger.
danger.
You might be in danger when you walk along a quiet street at night.
mean.
mean.
There are mean people in the world, but there are good people too.
rob.
rob.
Someone robbed the store and took all the money.
That is a mean person... I mean robber.
Well, right now we're going to go and visit some people who are not mean at all.
They are the Word Brothers.
Hi, everyone. I'm Jim.
And I'm Tim. We're...
The Word Brothers.
We are similar.
But very different.
Yes, just like some English words.
Right. For example, right, R-I-G-H-T.
And write, W-R-I-T-E.
These two words sound the same.
But they are very different.
The word "right," R-I-G-H-T, can mean many different things.
If someone is right, R-I-G-H-T, he or she is correct.
He or she is not wrong.
On a test, you want to get as many right answers as you can.
Right, R-I-G-H-T, is also the opposite of left.
Yeah. In America, people drive on the right side of the road.
That's true.
And most people in the world write with their right hand.
What did you say?
I said most people write with their right hand.
Write with their right hand?
Yes, they write, W-R-I-T-E, with their right hand.
Write, W-R-I-T-E, means to put letters or words on paper.
You can write words.
You can write a letter.
You can write a note.
You can even write a book!
OK, friends, write.
And right.
Can you see the difference?
Good! Until next time, this is Tim.
And Jim saying...
Goodbye.
