Lights.

Let's Talk in English.
Welcome to LTE TV.
I'm glad you could make it here today.
My name is Gabe.
And I'm Andrea.
Today we are talking about social media.
Our lesson has a question.
This is the title:
What's on Your Social Media Page?
What's on Your Social Media Page?
Well, have you joined a social media site?
Are you a member of Facebook?
Do you communicate with your friends using social media?
Well, we do know that social media is current.
But some people also don't like to share a lot of personal information using
social media.
Wow! We're talking about many things today.
I just used most of our key words.
And you will see them in today's Read It.
So please join us as we listen to what our Read It communicates.
Here we go.
Most people join one or two social media websites.
On these websites, people communicate with friends.
Some members put a lot of personal information on their social media pages.
They share their thoughts, pictures, videos and current location.
They may even share their address and phone number.
Other people share very little.
They may not even post their own picture on their page.
Most people join one or two social media websites.
Have you joined a social media website yet?
Well, maybe you've even joined two.
Well, please join me as we talk about this key word.
join.
When you join something, you become part of it.
You can join a team, then you are on the team.
Or you can join a group, then you are part of the group.
Andrea, Andrea...
You can join an activity...
Andrea, may I please join you in this teaching time?
Well, of course you can join me.
We would love to have you join us. Please, join! Join!
OK, I would like to share some things.
Yes, you can join something like a social media website.
And you can join a club at school.
That means you are doing things together with other people.
You can join other people for dinner or for lunch.
You can join a conversation.
Two people are talking.
And you can say: Hey, can I join this conversation?
Well, I'm glad you joined our teaching time, Gabe.
I am too.
And could you please communicate what our next key word is?
I would be glad to.
I will use English to communicate this key word with you.
Say it with me. Ah.
communicate.
That's a big word.
But we do this every day.
We communicate.
We let other people know what we are thinking.
We let other people know what we want to do.
We communicate in different ways.
We think we use language to communicate often.
But actually, more often, we communicate with our bodies.
Our bodies and our faces also communicate things.
So you can communicate by having a conversation with someone.
How do you communicate with your family?
Do you talk on the phone, or do you send them e-mails?
Well, we are happy to communicate with you here on our show every day.
Our next key word is: member.
member.
Now when you join a group, then you become a member of that group.
If you join a social media website, you become a member of that site.
Maybe you have a club at school.
You are a member in that club.
There might be a sign that says, "Members Only." Nobody else can come into the
room.
Members Only.
And we find out that some members of social media sites put a lot of personal
information on their pages.
Our key word is "personal." Now if something is personal, you don't tell
everyone about it.
Maybe you share some information about yourself, but not all of your personal
information.
Other people like to share their current location or what they are doing right
now.
That is current.
And "current" is a key word.
Something current is happening right now.
We talk about current events in the world.
That is things that are happening today or recently in the world.
A current event.
Well, some people post many current things, what they're doing right now,
current information.
And some people don't even post their own picture.
Our last key word here is "own." Now if something is your own, that means it is
yours.
I have my own car. It's my car.
Or, I have my own house. The house is mine.
Well friends, thank you for joining us.
It's great to communicate more in English with all of you.
But now it's time for you to join Christina.
She has some great things to communicate with you too.
Hi, everyone. I'm Christina.
(Chinese).
That's funny.
Now I'll share something funnier.
Hey! What are you doing?
I'm communicating.
Communicating with who? Your computer?
No, I'm communicating with my friends.
It's called social media.
Oh, yeah. Uh, what's social media?
It's a place online where friends share things.
You have to be a member.
Oh. I want to be a member.
I want to share things too.
Members share thoughts, pictures, videos, current locations...
I want to join! I want to join!
Sorry, social media's for people, not monkeys.
Oh...
That's interesting.
Now I'll share something more interesting.
What? What?
Please join us as we review our key words.
And the first one is: join.
join.
Mike joined the football team.
communicate.
communicate.
I communicate with my sister by e-mail.
member.
member.
John is a member of the baseball team.
personal.
personal.
Don't ask me my age. That's a personal question.
current.
current.
What is your current phone number?
own.
own.
This is my parents' car. I don't have my own car.
Well friends, you're doing a great job.
Right now it's time for us to continue with Song Time.
(Music).
