Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone.
We're glad you joined us right here at the studio.
My name is Andrea.
And I am Gabe.
Today we're talking about An Art Museum.
Have you ever been to an art museum?
Do you like drawings?
Do you like paintings?
Maybe you like learning about famous painters, famous artists.
Maybe you are almost famous yourself.
But these words - painting, drawing, painter, almost - what do they mean?
They are some key words.
Let's listen carefully for them in our Read It paragraph right now.
Almost every city has an art museum.
Some cities have more than one.
Many people like to visit art museums.
At art museums, people can see paintings, drawings, statues, photographs and
other kinds of artwork.
Many different kinds of things can be art.
Sometimes furniture, dishes or clothes are on display at an art museum.
People can also learn about famous artists and painters at art museums.
Today we are talking about An Art Museum.
And at the beginning of our Read It, we find that almost every city has an art
museum.
So that tells us that lots of people love art.
You can find art all over the world.
Almost every city has an art museum.
And "almost" is our key word.
Almost means a lot, but not every.
So not every city has one, but almost every city has one.
Almost all the students passed the test.
So not every student, but almost all students.
Can you use this key word in your own sentence?
I'm sure you can.
Almost everyone is here. I guess we can start.
Or, he's late almost every day.
So he's not late every day, but he's late almost every day.
Mmhm, that's true.
It rains almost every day in Seattle.
It doesn't rain every day.
But it feels like it rains almost every day in that city.
And of course, almost every city has an art museum.
Many people like to go and look at paintings.
"Painting" is a key word.
A painting is something that someone paints.
You use colors, and you paint a painting.
And of course, there are many famous painters who paint famous paintings.
That's true. And if you go to an art museum, you can see these famous paintings.
Some famous paintings are very beautiful, and you can look at them for hours.
Some paintings are interesting.
I think everybody has a different view about art and what they think is
beautiful.
That's what makes going to art museums interesting.
That's right. And there are so many different kinds of art.
You can have paintings.
You can see drawings and statues.
And uh, we see photographs here too.
There are different kinds of artwork.
And what's the other key word here, Andrea?
Well, the other key word is "drawing." You just said that.
Now yesterday our key word was also "drawing." But we were talking about the
activity of drawing or making pictures.
Now here we're talking about the thing that you make.
So if you draw a picture, if you enjoy drawing and you draw a picture, well,
then that picture is your drawing.
And you can see different drawings at art museums.
You can see these drawings and paintings.
Now what is the difference between these two things?
Well, it's what you use.
If you have a painting, you use something different than a drawing.
For a drawing, you would use a pencil or maybe some colored pencils or pens.
But a painting uses paint - special kinds of paint.
And a painter will make paintings.
"Painter" is our last key word here.
A painter is someone who paints.
They paint paintings, or they paint pictures.
And you can also learn about famous painters as you look at their paintings.
Sometimes learning about the painter helps you understand their painting.
So you can also learn a lot about culture and the time in history when the
painter painted the paintings.
That's right.
Well friends, right now we've learned a lot about art and art museums in
English.
I think it's time for us to continue.
Let's go and enjoy some time with Christina.
(Chinese).
Hey, does our city have an art museum?
Yes, it has several art museums.
Ooh, what can you see there?
You can see lots of things - paintings, drawings, statues, photographs and other
kinds of artwork too.
Wow! There are so many kinds of art.
That's right.
Sometimes furniture, dishes and clothes are on display at the art museum.
I can see those things at home.
You can also learn about famous artists and painters at the museums.
Oh, am I a famous artist?
Uh... No, Ginger, you're not.
Oh. Can I give my picture to the museum?
Then I can be a famous artist, right?
Uh... maybe.
Yeah.
But maybe not.
Oh.
I've been working here for ten years.
Well, not really. Almost.
It's time for us to review our key words now.
The first one is: almost.
Say it again.
almost.
Good.
Almost every student got a good grade.
painting.
painting.
There are many colors in this painting.
drawing.
drawing.
Can you do a drawing of my mother with these pencils?

We learn about famous painters in art class.
