Lights.

Let's Talk in English.
Hey, everyone, and welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Gabe.
And I'm Andrea.
We are so glad you joined us again today.
The title of our lesson is: Ordering Food for a Party.
Ordering Food for a Party.
Now if you are having a party, maybe you have a lot of guests coming to your
house.
You might have to cook a lot of food.
Now who will be the cook?
Will you be the cook, or will you ask someone else to cook at your party?
Is it a formal party? A fancy party?
Will you need a cake and ice cream?
Well friends, I just used all of today's key words.
And by the end of our lesson today, you are going to be able to use all of them
too.
Do you want to start?
Well, please open your magazine, find today's Read It, and let's go.
You're planning a party but don't want to prepare the food.
Maybe you aren't a great cook, or you just want to save time.
Order food and you won't have to cook.
Is it a formal party?
Will your guests sit and eat a meal together?
Order food from a fancy restaurant.
Is it a casual party?
Order finger foods from a supermarket.
Is it a birthday party?
Don't forget to order a cake and ice cream!
Gabe, I am having a party tomorrow night.
Really? What kind of party are you having?
Well, it's a formal party.
Guests are going to wear formal clothes.
Really? So it will kind of be a fancy party?
Oh yes, it will be fancy, and it will be fun.
Andrea, will there be cake and ice cream?
Of course. There will be over five different kinds of cakes and many different
kinds of ice cream.
Oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness.
Yes.
Andrea, can I go to your party?
No. No, you can't. You... you're not invited.
I'm not invited?
No.
I can't be a guest at your party?
No, you can't be a guest at my party.
But you can you help me teach our key words.
Oh. Well, I'd love to do that.
Well, OK, the... this first key word here today is uh, "cook." And I guess
somebody is going to be a cook for the food at Andrea's party that I can't go
to.
But "cook" is a key word.
And the cook is the person who makes food.
They cook food.
When you cook food, you heat it up.
And then you can eat it.
Are you a cook?
Do you prepare food?
Do you get food ready for yourself to eat and other people to eat?
My mom is an excellent cook.
I always say, "Mom, you are the best cook in the world!" Well, if you like to
cook, then you could be a cook.
And maybe you prepare food for guests who come to your home.
Our key word is "guest." If you are a guest at someone's house,
that means you don't live there, but you are visiting the house for a short
time.
And if someone is visiting your house, if they are your guest, then you can say,
"Be my guest." Be my guest.
I hope you feel comfortable.
Make yourself at home.
Be my guest.
And when you're planning a party, it's nice to invite guests to your home.
Maybe you will have a cook there to prepare food.
You also have to think about what kind of party you're having.
When you have a formal party, you have to prepare things differently.
Let's talk about this key word.
formal.
If something is... formal, that means it's very special.
When you wear formal clothes, you wear special clothes, very nice clothes -
clothes that you don't wear every day.
So it could be a formal party, like Andrea is having.
Or you can say you're going to have a formal dinner or a formal lunch.
That means you want to dress nicer.
Maybe there's a certain way that everyone should dress.
Sometimes people wear all white or all black or certain colors at formal dinners
or formal parties.
Yes, formal parties can be fancy parties.
Our next key word is "fancy." Now this word is very similar to "formal." When
something is fancy, it is extra special.
A fancy party has many special decorations.
You have to wear formal or fancy clothes when you go to a fancy party.
Dress nicely when you visit a fancy hotel.
And of course, some of these places, some of these restaurants have good cake
and ice cream.
I love cake and ice cream.
"Cake" is our key word.
Cake is delicious.
It's a great dessert.
And it's nice to eat ice cream with cake.
"Ice cream" is a key word.
And ice cream is a cold, sweet treat that you can enjoy.
And the ice cream at my party is going to be so good.
So can I come to your party, Andrea?
Well, Gabe, I'm sorry you can't.
It's a party just for ladies.
That's why you can't come.
Oh, that's OK. That makes me feel better.
I'm OK with that.
OK. But Christina can come to the party.
I have to invite her.
I'd love for her to be my guest.
But first, let's go see her as we learn more.
(Chinese).
Can I have a party? A birthday party, please?
Ginger, I can't plan a birthday party.
I want a birthday party!
I can't prepare food.
I don't have time.
I want a birthday party!
OK, OK, you can have a birthday party.
Hooray! I want a formal party with lots of guests.
No. Let's plan a casual party.
We can order food from the supermarket.
OK. Oh, oh, can we have cake and ice cream and bananas?
Yes. After all, it is your birthday.
Hooray!
Hey, wait a minute.
It's not your birthday.
Oops. Can I still have a party?
Let's review today's key words together.
The first one is: cook.
