Lights.

Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone. And welcome.
My name is Andrea.
My name is Gabe.
And uh, are you hungry today?
Well, we have a lesson for you about food, kind of.
It's about a girl.
Our lesson is called: Food Girl.
Now what does Food Girl do?
I don't know.
We're going to learn about her in our lesson.
But I have a feeling she is going to teach us something about food or preparing
food.
There are many different kinds of foods that you can prepare.
We have lots to learn.
So open up your magazine and let's begin.
Food Girl Blog.
I want to eat healthy food, but I'm usually in a hurry.
So I often eat fast food or junk food.
What can I do?
Here's my idea: I can prepare food on the weekend!
Then I can eat healthy food all week.
I will cut up vegetables, so they're ready to stir-fry or steam.
And I will cook a lot of pork, chicken or beef.
Then I'll have meat for sandwiches, soups and other dishes.
We are learning about a girl from her blog.
The Food Girl Blog.
Do you blog?
Do you like to write about food?
What can you share?
Well, she is talking about some things that she prepares.
"Prepare" is a key word.
If you prepare something, that means you are making it ready, you're getting
ready to do something.
And Food Girl prepares food on the weekend.
So she gets all the food ready, that she's going to cook during the week, on the
weekend.
Now I think this is a great idea.
It is a good idea.
You can plan ahead, think ahead, and prepare for something in the future.
If you think it might rain outside, what should you do, Andrea?
Well, you should prepare an umbrella.
Take an umbrella with you.
And before you take a trip, what kind of things do you need to prepare, Gabe?
Ooh, you need to prepare what you will take with you.
You need to prepare what you will pack.
So you can prepare food for the next week.
That's not a bad idea.
She says, "Then I can eat healthy food all week." Sometimes she cuts up
vegetables so that she can stir-fry them or steam them.
"Stir-fry" is a key word.
When you stir-fry something, that means you are heating it up.
You are cooking it.
You are stir-frying it.
Andrea, do you like to stir-fry things?
I do like to stir-fry things.
When you stir-fry food, especially vegetables, you're still very healthy.
Mmhm.
You just use a little bit of oil.
And when you stir-fry, you keep moving the vegetable or the food around in your
pan until it is cooked.
So that's what you do.
Well, Andrea, then do you ever steam your food?
Hold on. "Steam" is a key word.
When you steam something, that means you use hot water, but you don't put the
food in the water.
You let the hot air cook the food.
Andrea, do you ever steam food?
Yes, I often steam food.
Steaming food is one of the healthiest ways to prepare it.
I like to steam vegetables.
I also like to steam fish.
Do you ever steam food, Gabe?
Andrea, sometimes I eat food that has steam coming out of it.
But no, I don't usually steam my food because I don't really know how to cook
very well.
Well, I can help you cook.
We can cook some pork and some beef together.
And those are key words.
Well, let's talk about them before we cook them.
cook.
Now when cook food, you prepare it.
You use heat to get the food ready to eat.
And what can you cook?
Well, pork is delicious.
Chicken is delicious.
So is beef.
These are three different kinds of meat.
Pork is a kind of meat that comes from pigs.
Beef comes from cows.
Pork and beef.
So what do you prefer: pork, chicken or beef?
When you are at a restaurant, this is often something you have to decide.
What kind of meat you want to eat?
Or if you're going to prepare food, make sure you buy the right meat.
Well, right now it's time for Andrea to cook some delicious pork and beef for me
to eat.
Uh no, Gabe. Right now it's time for us to learn more with Christina.
Right.
(Chinese).
Hey, why do you like fast food?
Because I'm always in a hurry.
And fast food is always fast.
But fast food is junk food.
I know. And it's not good for me.
What can I do?
Easy! Prepare food on the weekend.
Oh, then I can eat healthy food all week.
Yeah, stir-fry bananas or steam them.
Oh, stir-fry bananas.
Yeah. And cook a lot of pork, chicken and beef.
OK.
So what do you think?
Well, I think it sounds good.
