OK. OK. Lights.
Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everybody, and welcome to a new week of learning together right here on LTE
TV.
My name's Andrea.
I was hoping you would say your name.
My name is Gabe.
And uh, Andrea, I was just wondering if you wanted to watch a movie with me
later?
Oh, watch a movie with you.
Well, do you want to go to a movie theater, or do you want to rent a movie?
Uh, maybe we could go to the movie theater.
We can get from friends and watch a movie together.
Oh, and it's nice to watch a movie on the big screen.
Yes! Let's watch a movie.
That's right, let's watch a movie.
Friends, that's the name of today's lesson.
And we just used all of our key words.
You will see them again very soon in our Read It paragraph.
So open up your magazine and let's get started.
Where do you watch movies?
Many people watch movies in theaters.
Americans spent $31.8 billion on movie tickets last year.
People watch movies at home too.
They borrow, rent or buy DVDs.
Or they download movies.
Then they watch them on their computers.
Some people only watch movies in theaters.
They like theaters best.
They can enjoy a movie on a big screen.
But others only watch movies at home.
Where do you watch movies?
This is a good question.
And this is a good key word.
The word is: watch.
What do you do when you watch something?
You use your eyes.
And if you're watching TV or watching a movie, where do you watch movies?
Andrea, where do you watch movies, at home or in a movie theater?
Well, I watch more movies at home than in a movie theater.
But lately, I don't watch that many movies.
It has to be a very good movie for me to watch it.
It has to be a good movie, and then Andrea will watch it.
Well, I like to watch movies at home.
But I really do like to go to movie theaters too.
"Theater" is a key word here.
theater.
A theater is a place where you can go to watch movies.
But the screen is not small. It's really big.
A movie theater.
Yes. And when you are at a movie theater, there are many people all around you
watching the movie.
For me, it's exciting to go to a movie theater.
Like Gabe said, you watch the screen, and it's very big.
Also, the sound around you is very good.
So you can listen and watch a movie at a movie theater.
You know, I have a friend named Tom who works at a movie theater.
He watches many movies.
Do you know him, Gabe?
Yeah, Tom is a good man.
He works at a movie theater, and he likes popcorn.
I also like popcorn when I'm watching a movie.
I like it when theaters are crowded with lots of people because that means
everyone is enjoying the movie with you at the theater.
Everyone is watching a really good movie.
Now Andrea, you said that sometimes you watch movies at home.
So do you ever rent movies?
Yes, sometimes I rent movies.
It's nice to rent a movie, and then go home and sit on the couch, make some
popcorn, and have a movie night.
So you can have a movie night and rent a movie - rent a DVD.
Here's our key word. It is: rent.
If you rent something, you don't buy it.
But you do give a little bit of money, and you can borrow something for a short
amount of time.
You rent a DVD.
Now you can also rent other things.
Maybe you rent a car when you are on the trip.
You pay money to use the car for a short time.
Or maybe you rent a TV to use.
Is there anything else that you rent?
What can you rent?
I think you can rent many things.
Sometimes people go on trips and they rent scooters.
Or like Andrea said, they can rent a car.
Now if you want to watch a DVD at home, the screen will not be as big as at a
theater.
"Screen" is our key word.
The screen is what you see the movie on.
A TV has a screen.
The theater has a big screen.
And sometimes we actually say, "I'm going to watch the movie on the big screen."
That's another way of saying I'm going to the movie theater.
So what do you prefer, watching movies on a big screen, or watching them on a
small screen?
Now we can also use this word to talk about computer screens, or the screen on
your cell phone.
That's right.
There are many different kinds of screens.
Well, right now it's time for us to continue learning with Christina.
(Chinese).
Today we're talking about watching movies.
I know. People spend a lot of money to watch movies.
Many people watch movies in the theater.
But not everyone.
Some people watch movies at home.
That's right, Ginger.
Where do you like to watch movies?
I like to watch movies in the air.
In the air? You watch movies in the air?
Yes, I watch movies on airplanes.
Do you do that often?
No. I usually go to the theater.
The tickets are much cheaper.
That's true.
I enjoy watching movies on a big screen.
Me too.
But sometimes I watch movies at home.
Well, we can watch movies together.
Yeah, on an airplane.
Yeah.
That's expensive.
All right, now it's time for us to review our key words.
The first one is: watch.
watch.
What are you watching on TV?
theater.
theater.
Where is the movie theater?
rent.
rent.
Let's not buy that DVD. Let's rent it.
screen.
screen.
Let's sit closer to the screen. Then we can see better.
Great job, everyone.
Now we can go and see what Lucy Says.
Here is your computer.
The CD player is fixed.
Thank you.
What was wrong with it?
The player was just old.
Do you use it a lot?
I do.
Some people only use their computers for work.
I like to play music on my computer too.
I see.
Take care of your computer.
Some people only...
That's today's Useful Sentence Pattern.
Well, let's use it.
Some people only exercise outside.
Some people only speak one language.
Some people only have two children.
Some people only play games on the computer.
Some people only practice English once a week.
Well, I know that you practice English every day, and that is great.
Now it's your turn.
Let's take abreak.
