Hey, everyone, and welcome to the Saturday Show of Let's Talk in English.
My name is Gabe.
I'm glad you could join us for today.
It's a review day.
We're going to review the lessons that we looked at this week.
What did we learn about?
We learned about baseball.
What do you do in a baseball game?
You throw a ball and you catch a ball.
What else can you learn in a baseball game?
What English words do you need to know?
You're going to review a little bit today.
And you can use those words again, OK?
We also learned about spring.
That's right, spring is here.
So it's getting a little warmer outside.
It's not so cold.
And things are growing all around us.
What kinds of things can you do in the spring?
Maybe you want to plant a garden.
And of course, the air is nice and fresh.
We also learned about Easter.
What do you remember about Easter?
Well, today we're going to review.
So let's do that now.
Listen carefully because Ginger will be here soon.
And we have some questions just for you about our lessons.
Here we go.
Do you know how to play baseball?
Answer these questions!
1. How many players does one team have on the field?
2. Who throws the ball to the batter?
3. How many strikes can the batter get before he is out?
4. The batter hits the ball. The other team catches it. What happens?
5. How many bases are on a baseball field?
6. How does a baseball team score?
Take me out to the ball game.
Take me out to...
Hi, Ken. Do you like baseball?
I love baseball! I play it and I watch it.
Can you explain the game to me?
Well, what do you know about baseball?
There are two teams. One is on the field.
Right. How many players can that team have on the field?
Eleven?
No, nine.
The pitcher throws the ball to a guy on the other team.
The batter. And if he hits the ball?
He runs!
That's right. He runs to first base.
But what if someone on the other team catches the ball?
The batter is out.
Right! How many bases are there?
Four. If the batter runs to all the bases, his team scores.
Good job, Carol!
Baseball fans cheer for their favorite teams.
A baseball game usually lasts nine innings.
But it can be longer.
If the score is tied, the teams play extra innings until one team wins.
The longest game in professional baseball history lasted 33 innings!
Fans sat and watched that game for more than eight hours.
Kids love baseball too.
Many cities and countries have Little League teams.
Boys and girls from ages 5 to 18 can play.
Did you watch the baseball game on TV last night?
You mean the Camels and Dragons game?
Yes! It was great!
It was really long! It lasted 14 innings!
I know!
And the score was tied for 13 innings!
Then a Camel's player hit the ball.
And three players scored.
The Camels won!
Too bad. I was cheering for the Dragons!
Did you play on a Little League team when you were a kid?
Yes, I did. I loved it.
I played in Little League too.
I liked Little League games.
They only lasted six innings.
But Little League games sometimes have extra innings too.
The longest Little League game in history was 26 innings.
I'm glad I didn't play in that game!
For some people, spring is their favorite season.
The weather is getting warmer.
The days are longer.
Spring is a time of new life.
Many baby animals are born in the spring.
People love little chicks, kittens and puppies.
In some places, flowers grow at this time of year.
Spring is a great season!
Hi, Carol!
Hi, Susie. How are you?
I'm great! I love spring.
Spring is not my favorite season.
Why not? Spring is great.
I love the warm weather.
I do too.
But I sneeze a lot in the spring.
I'm sorry. Does medicine help?
Yes. But I need some more.
Can I go to the store for you?
Thanks. But I can go to the store after work.
I can take a break and walk to the store now.
The weather is great!
That's true.
I can see flowers on my way to the store.
Many flowers are growing now.
That's right.
I might see some baby animals too.
Maybe.
New life is everywhere.
OK! You can go to the store now.
Great!
Spring is a great time to get outside.
Although it rains a lot in the spring, you can still do outdoor activities.
You can take a walk after it rains.
Breathe in the nice, clean air.
Or you can plant a garden.
You can plant some flowers or some seeds.
You could also go to the zoo and see baby animals, like chicks and bunnies.
What are your favorite spring activities?
Go outside and do them!
Thanks for taking a walk with me, Lily.
You're welcome, Ken.
I love the air after it rains.
I agree.
I like to go outside and get some exercise.
Me too. I love going for a walk.
It's one of my favorite outdoor activities.
I'm glad this park is near our office.
I know. What a blessing!
Are these your seeds?
Oh, yes!
My mom and I are going to plant a garden.
Really? Do you plant a garden every year?
No, this is our first time.
What will you plant?
Carrots, beans, lettuce and other vegetables.
We want to have a little vegetable garden.
Fun! Can I help?
With planting?
No. With eating!
Happy Easter!
People will celebrate this spring holiday on April 8 this year.
Children often decorate eggs.
Adults hide plastic eggs filled with candy or small toys, then children hunt for
them.
Many people go to church on Easter Sunday.
They hear about God and how He sent Jesus to Earth two thousand years ago.
They believe that Jesus died and then came back to life three days later on
Easter Sunday.
Do you have any plans for this weekend, Susie?
Yes! I am going to help at the children's Easter party in the park.
Fun! Will the children hunt for eggs?
Yes, and I get to hide the eggs.
I love seeing the children's faces when they find the eggs!
That will be fun.
How about you, Lily?
What are your plans?
I'm going to spend time with my family.
We'll all go to church together on Sunday.
That's great.
Easter Sunday is my favorite day to go to church.
Why is that?
Everyone goes to church on Easter!
Yeah.
And I like hearing about God and the story of Jesus coming back to life.
Well, have a Happy Easter, Lily!
You too, Susie.
Hello again, everyone.
I'm here with Ginger, and...
And I'm here with Gabe.
Happy Easter!
Yes. Wait. Happy Easter?
Ginger, Easter is tomorrow, not today.
I know. But let me tell you a secret.
OK.
Come over here.
What's your secret?
Let's Talk in English isn't on tomorrow!
Oh. Right. I see.
You're right about that.
Well then, together now.
Happy Easter!
Yes, you did learn about Easter this week.
We learned about lots of things.
And now are you ready for our questions?
Number one.
How many innings did the longest game in baseball history have?
OK.
I know! I know!
Uh... what's the answer?
Um, I'll tell you it's a number, Ginger, a number.
Oh, is the answer "blue"?
No, Ginger. That's not a number.
The answer is 33.
The longest baseball game in history was 33 innings long.
Wow, that is a long game!
Yes, yes, it was a long game.
And here is number two.
You can do a better job with this one, Ginger.
Who will Lily plant a garden with this year?
Who will Lily plant a garden with?
Yeah.
That's easy. It's...
I'll tell you, Ginger. It's not a number.
I know. It's...
OK, and it's not a color either.
It's not blue.
Oh, I know! It's her mom.
Hey, nice job!
Yeah, Lily will plant a garden with her mom.
How did you know that?
I listened to the lessons, silly!
OK. Well, I guess I am pretty silly.
Good for you!
It's important to listen carefully.
And it's important to take breaks.
Let's take a break now.
