OK, everyone. Lights.
Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everyone, and welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Andrea.
And my name is Gabe.
Now yesterday we learned a little bit about spring.
Today our lesson is called: Spring Activities.
What's an activity?
Well, that's something that you do.
And it's also a key word.
We have many more key words today.
So open your magazine, find our Read It paragraph for today, and let's get
started.
Here we go.
Spring is a great time to get outside.
Although it rains a lot in the spring, you can still do outdoor activities.
You can take a walk after it rains.
Breathe in the nice, clean air.
Or you can plant a garden.
You can plant some flowers or some seeds.
You could also go to the zoo and see baby animals, like chicks and bunnies.
What are your favorite spring activities?
Go outside and do them!
What kinds of activities do you like to do in the spring?
"Activity" is a key word.
One of my favorite activities here on Let's Talk in English is talking about our
key words.
So an activity is something that you do.
An indoor activity is something that you can do inside, like play some games or
cook.
What else is an indoor activity?
What's another indoor activity, Andrea?
Well, watching a movie is...
OK.
An indoor activity.
Going to a shopping mall and shopping, well, that's also an indoor activity.
That's right, those are indoor activities.
But in the spring, it's nice and warm outside, so we like to do more outdoor
activities.
What's an outdoor activity?
Well, you can take a walk after it rains.
"Walk" is a key word.
You know this word as a verb: if you are "walking" somewhere.
Andrea, I am walking around you right now.
Uh, Gabe is walking around me.
Gabe, you just took a walk around me.
That's right. And you just used that key word as a noun.
You can take a walk somewhere.
Take a walk through the forest.
Take a walk down the street.
Take a walk that lasts three hours.
I like taking very long walks.
I like to think and enjoy the air outside.
Oh, it's a great thing.
It is a great thing.
And a very long walk can also be called a hike.
I know Andrea likes to hike.
And it is very nice to experience and just enjoy the fresh air.
"Air" is a key word.
And you need air to live, so do I.
We all need air.
We breathe air.
And sometimes when you go outside, the air is very clean.
We often feel this in the spring.
But sometimes the air is not very clean.
And well, then you might just want to stay inside.
Well, that's true. You might want to stay inside and enjoy some indoor
activities.
But what is another outdoor activity that we see here?
You can plant a garden.
"Plant" is a key word.
If you plant something, that means it's not alive yet, but you put it into the
ground, and then it will grow later.
You plant something.
Now what kinds of things can you plant?
Well, you can plant flowers.
You put the small seeds in the ground, and then you can watch the flowers grow.
You can also plant vegetables.
You can even plant a vegetable garden.
You can plant a garden.
And of course, "garden" is another key word.
A garden is not just one thing.
It's many things in the same place.
So a vegetable garden or a flower garden.
These are different kinds of gardens.
And to plant a garden, you need seeds.
"Seed" is also a key word.
A seed is very, very small.
And you put it in the ground.
You plant it in the ground to see things grow.
That's right.
What kinds of things can you plant?
You need seeds to plant things.
Let's continue now with Christina.
(Chinese).
Spring, spring, spring.
I love to sing about spring.
Monkey Man.
Do you love to sing about spring? Why?
Because spring is uh, the greatest time to get outside.
But it rains a lot in the spring.
Hmm, that's OK. I can walk after it rains.
Breathe in the nice, clean air.
What else do you like about spring?
I can plant a garden in the spring.
And grow bananas?
Maybe.
And I can go to the zoo and see baby animals.
I love baby animals, like little chicks and little bunnies and lambs and horses
and birds...
I think I'll take a walk now.
And ponies and elephants and giraffes.
Did I say giraffes? And...
OK, let's review our key words.
The first one is: activity.
activity.
Swimming is one of my favorite activities.
walk.
walk.
Let's go for a walk. It is such a nice day.
air.
air.
The air is not very clean today. Let's go inside.
garden.
garden.
Mrs. Li has many beautiful flowers in her garden.
plant.
plant.
Do you want to plant flowers or vegetables in your garden?
seed.
seed.
Plant these seeds. Give them some water and soon they will grow.
And we will learn more with the Word Brothers.
Hi, everyone. I'm Jim.
And I'm Tim. We're...
The Word Brothers.
We are similar.
But very different.
Yes, just like some English words.
Right. For example, flower, F-L-O-W-E-R.
And flour, F-L-O-U-R.
These two words sound similar.
But they are very different.
A flower, F-L-O-W-E-R, is a part of a plant.
Flowers are very beautiful.
Flowers are many different colors and shapes.
Flowers also smell nice.
Dad always gives Mom flowers on her birthday.
Mom's favorite flowers are roses.
That's right.
Now what about flour, F-L-O-U-R?
Hmm, you can eat flour, F-L-O-U-R.
People use it to make food.
Right. People use flour to make bread, cake and cookies.
Mmhm.
Hey, Jim, do we have any flour in our house?
I don't know. Why?
I want to ask Mom to make some cookies tonight.
I love Mom's cookies.
OK, Tim. You do that.
Well friends, flour.
And flower.
Can you see the difference?
Good. Until next time, this is Jim.
And Tim, saying...
Goodbye.
