(Music).
Welcome back.
Now it's time for a Key Word...
Story.
We're going to use our key words from today and make a...
Story.
Good. We don't know how it will be.
I hope it's OK.
All right, let's get started.
Billy Bob is really a smart guy.
He uses many different tools every day.
Sometimes he takes his tools to the movie theater.
Other people at the movie theater make comments about his tools.
This causes Billy Bob to become very proud.
He's so happy he has his tools.
That's a great story.
That's a great story. Uh, good job!
Yeah, you too.
Thanks.
OK, we know you can come up with an even better story.
We're sure you can.
Right now it's time for us to continue with Conversation A.
Hello, everyone, and welcome to Let's Talk.
Let's welcome our special guest for today - Mr. Tech.
What can you tell us about smartphones, Mr. Tech?
Well, cellphones used to be just simple communication tools.
But now they can do so much more.
That's why we call them smart, right?
Yes. They're little computers, music players, video game players and cameras.
I like that.
I do too. Smartphones are so convenient!
Mr. Tech is Rob's guest on Let's Talk today.
And Mr. Tech knows a lot about technology.
And cellphones are a kind of technology.
Of course, technology is a long word, so you can just say "tech." He knows a lot
about tech, or he knows a lot about technology.
At the beginning of our conversation, Rob says, "What can you tell us about
smartphones?" What can you tell us about smartphones?
Now when you want some information from someone, this is a good question to ask.
You're from America. Well, what can you tell us about America?
What can you tell us about your hometown?
What can you tell us about taking care of the Earth?
What can you tell us about learning English?
Ask someone a question like that today.
At the end of our conversation, Mr. Tech says, "Smartphones are so convenient!"
And when something is convenient, it's very easy to use.
Buses are so convenient.
Computers are so convenient.
7-11 stores are so convenient.
And learning is so convenient right here on LTE.
Let's continue with Conversation B.
But can smartphones be too convenient?
Yes, they can cause problems.
Many people are on them all the time.
I do use mine a lot.
I check movie show times and restaurant reviews.
I check my email and read comments on my Facebook page.
And I don't get other things done.
That's the problem!
That's the problem.
What's the problem?
Well, sometimes I don't get other things done.
I check my email and read comments on my Facebook page.
I don't get other things done.
Well, what else can you get done in life?
Maybe you have some homework to do.
Homework is important.
You need to get your homework done or get your homework finished.
Maybe you have a lot of work to do.
I need to get my work done tonight!
What else can we do?
We can take a look at the top of this conversation.
Rob says, "Can smartphones be too convenient?" Is anything too convenient?
Well, Andrea just said some things were pretty convenient.
Some convenience stores are very convenient.
Maybe they're too convenient.
You'll never have to leave your city or your town or your neighborhood.
It's too convenient.
Later Mr. T. says, "They can cause problems." What kinds of things cause
problems?
You can say: Little Tim causes problems in class.
Or, my dog always causes problems for me.
What causes problems in your life?
Talk about that in English.
Right now it's time for us to review.
Cellphones were once just simple communication tools.
Now phones are "smart." Smartphones are little computers, music players, video
game players and cameras.
With a smartphone, you can check movie show times, pay bills and answer emails.
But smartphones can cause problems.
They make noise when you receive new emails, texts or comments on your Facebook
page.
You'll want to check these all the time, and you won't get other things done.

Calendar Phrase.
I use it a lot.
I use it a lot.
(Chinese).
Do you have a cellphone?
Ues. I use it a lot.
Do you have a computer?
Yes. I use it a lot.
Do you have a camera?
Yes. I use it a lot.
These things are expensive.
Do you have a credit card?
Yes. I use it a lot.
Yeah.
I use it a lot.
I use it a lot.
(Chinese).
All right, now it's time to Answer It!
The first question is: What does Mr. Tech use his smartphone for?
OK. Andrea, I think, knows this answer.
What does Mr. Tech use his smartphone for?
Well, he checks his email and reads comments on his Facebook page.
Bingo.
Yeah. I know you got the answer as well.
Now here's another question to discuss.
Do you have a smartphone? Why or why not?
Gabe, do you have a smartphone?
No. My phone's kind of dumb.
No, no, no... But it's not a smartphone.
Um, it's just a regular cellphone.
But it's very nice.
I can't do too many things with it.
But all I need to do is text and call people.
Well, that's true.
And maybe someday you will get smart.
I mean get a smartphone.
Yeah.
Friends, thanks for joining us today.
We'll see you all again tomorrow right here on...
Let's Talk in English.
Goodbye.
Get smart...
Goodbye.
(Music).
