Let's Talk in English.
Hey, everyone. My name is Gabe.
And I'm Andrea. Welcome.
Today we are talking about Strange Collections.
Now yesterday we already... started talking about things that people collect.
And today we're going to talk about strange or unusual collections.
Please open your magazine and find today's Read It and read along.
Here we go.
People collect stamps more than any other thing.
Coin collections, rock collections and baseball card collections are also
common.
People also collect strange things.
Some collect hair from famous people.
A man in America collects toothpaste.
He started collecting it in 2002, and now he has the world's largest toothpaste
collection.
Some people might think these collections are boring or dumb.
But for the collector, they are interesting and valuable.
You can collect coins.
You can collect toothpaste, dog things, sheep things, even hair.
But what do most people collect?
Gabe, do you remember?
It's in our Read It.
Yes, I know. I know.
OK, most people collect stamps.
Or, people collect stamps more than any other thing.
Am I right?
You are right. That is correct.
So it's true. It's common to collect stamps.
What other things are common to collect?
Well, coins. I actually used to collect coins.
And let's talk about this key word.
A coin is a kind of money.
Coins are usually round, and they come in different shapes, sizes and colors.
And most countries have different coins.
There are lots of different kinds of coins around the world - gold coins, silver
coins, copper coins.
Some people collect coins.
Andrea, do you still collect coins?
Well, once in a while, if I find a special coin with a special picture on it, I
will collect it.
Hmm.
I still have my coin collection, and maybe someday I can add to it.
So you can collect coins.
You can also collect rocks.
Let's talk about this key word.
A rock is part of nature.
You can find small rocks or very big rocks.
If a rock is small, it's something that you can pick up off the ground.
And some rocks are very beautiful, you might want to collect them.
I like throwing rocks into a river.
That's kind of fun.
Or skipping rocks.
Another word for a rock is a stone, S-T-O-N-E.
So you could throw stones - don't throw stones at people.
Or you can collect rocks.
Like it says in our Read It, people have rock collections.
Other people have baseball card collections.
And "baseball" and "card" are also key words.
Now baseball is a sport that you play.
And a card is something small that you can keep.
A baseball card is small, and it has a picture of a baseball player and some
information about that player.
Now we also talked about some other collections in our Read It that are
different.
But for the collector, they are valuable.
Now "valuable" is also a key word.
Gabe, can you help us with it?
Yes, of course.
If something is valuable to you, it's important to you.
Maybe it's worth a lot to you.
Maybe it costs a lot of money.
You can sell it and make lots of money if it is valuable.
And some things are just valuable to people because they're very special.
If you are a collector of toothpaste, well then your toothpaste collection can
be very valuable.
That's right.
But is toothpaste a common collection?
It's not a common collection.
"Common" is a key word.
If something is common, many people have it or many people do it - a common
activity.
Or a common thing to collect is something many people collect.
And it's common for us to review or learn something new with Christina every
day.
Let's do that right now.
(Chinese).
Wow. Some people collect strange things!
Yeah, like bananas.
Hey! Very funny.
So what do you collect?
Well, I collect stamps.
Boring.
And I collect coins.
Oh, boring again.
And I collect rocks too.
Oh, still boring.
And I have a big collection of baseball cards.
Oh... even more boring!
Hey, a lot of people collect these things.
It's very common.
And that's why it's very boring.
No. My collections are interesting and valuable.
Interesting and valuable?
Yes. Look here. This is a coin from my collection.
Ooh.
It has a banana on it.
A banana coin?
Now that is interesting!
Mmhm.
Is it valuable too?
Yes, it's very valuable.
Ooh! Can I have it?
No!
People collect stamps more than any other thing.
Coin collections, rock collections and baseball card collections are also
common.
People also collect strange things.
Some collect hair from famous people.
A man in America collects toothpaste.
He started collecting it in 2002, and now he has the world's largest toothpaste
collection.
Some people might think these elections are boring or dumb.
But for the collector, they are interesting and valuable.
Let's practice our key words together.
The first one is: coin.

Mark used some coins to buy a newspaper.

Our Commercial Breaks are very valuable.
Let's take a look right now.
