(Music).
I'm ready. Are you ready?
I'm ready.
OK. Lights.
Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everybody, and welcome to LTE TV.
My name is Andrea.
And I'm Gabe.
And today we're going to start talking about Leap Year.
Leap Year.
What is leap year?
Well, it only happens every four years.
And yes, today is leap year because February 29 doesn't happen every year.
It's true. So today is a very special day.
We only get to have February 29 every four years.
So friends, let's do everything we can to make this a special day, including
learning more English.
So please open your magazine, and let's begin.
What is leap year?
It's a year with an extra day on February 29.
Why do we have an extra day?
There are usually 365 days in a year.
But the fact is that a year actually lasts 365 days and six hours.
It's true!
That's how long it takes Earth to travel around the sun.
What do we do with the extra six hours?
Every four years we add an extra day to our calendars.
Well, we learned many good facts here about leap year.
And "fact" is a key word.
What's a fact?
A fact is something that is true.
There is a fact in today's Read It.
The fact is: A year actually lasts 365 days and six hours.
Not just 365, but also six hours.
That is a fact.
And that is an interesting fact.
I know.
Well, let's look at the other key word that we saw in this fact.
It is "last." Now when you talk about how long something lasts, you're talking
about the time that it takes.
For example, how long does the movie last?
I only have two hours to watch it.
The trip here lasted three hours.
I was glad to get out of the car.
It lasted for three hours.
Or the movie lasted for two hours.
And as we can see, a year actually lasts more than just 365 days.
365 days and six hours is how long it lasts.
That is true.
And "true" is another key word.
If something is true, that means what it says is the right thing.
Yeah, that's right... and true.
If something is true, it's not false.
What is true?
Well, this is an adjective.
The noun is "truth," T-R-U-T-H.
Do you know the truth?
The truth is it takes to the Earth 365 days and six hours to travel around the
sun.
That is the truth.
And we have another key word to look at in this fact.
It is "Earth." Earth. We live on Earth.
Earth is the planet that we all live on.
OK. So since we all live on Earth, then we should probably take care of the
Earth, right?
Well yes, that's true.
We should take care of the Earth.
And this fact is interesting for us as we think about leap year.
Every four years we add an extra day to our calendars.
And so if you look at your calendar today, you will know that it is leap year.
But what's calendar?
Well, that's a key word.
A calendar is like a kind of paper or uh, maybe you have it on your computer.
It lets you know what day it is, and lets you know how many days are in a month,
and what days they land on, like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday...
You find all this information on your calendar.
And Christina has more information to share about our Read It, so let's listen
to her.
(Chinese).
Today is February 29.
It's leap year.
Oh, frogs must be very happy today.
Frogs?
Yes. Frogs like to leap.
They hop and leap and jump around.
Happy Leap Year, frogs!
The fact is that leap year only comes every four years.
Oh, frogs aren't happy very often.
It's not about frogs that leap.
Well then, what is leap year?
Leap year only comes every four years.
And this is leap year?
Every four years we add a day to the calendar - February 29.
Hey, and that's today!
Yeah. Today is February 29.
It's a very special day.
Is February 29 a holiday?
Well um, no.
Why not? It's a special day.
Let's celebrate!
Celebrate leap year?
Yeah. Let's have a party for frogs.
Oh, no.
Yeah, leap, leap.
Well, now it's time to review our key words.
That's a fact.
The first key word is: fact.
fact.
I want to know the facts. Tell me what really happened.
last.
last.
The flight only lasted an hour. It wasn't too long.
And true.
true.
This information is true. I'm telling you the facts.
Earth.
Earth.
People live on Earth. We must take care of it.
Mmhm.
And calendar.
calendar.
Look at the calendar. What is today's date?
Let's see. Today is Wednesday, that means...
Ah, we have a Song Time today.
That's a fact.
