(Music).
Are you ready?
I'm ready.
OK, here we go. Lights.
Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hi, everybody. My name is Gabe.
And I'm Andrea.
Thank you for joining us today right here in the studio.
We have a lot to learn together.
The title of our lesson is Making Plans.
We have some plans for you today.
Are you a palnner?
Do you like to think about all the things that you need to do?
Or do you just not like to make plans?
Well, we hope that you plan on learning something with us today.
That's right, because we have some time that we want to spend with you.
We have a lot of things we want to talk about.
And of course, we have a Read It just for you.
So open your magazine, and let's get started.
Do you make plans?
Some people enjoy planning their day, their week or their year!
They like to organize their time well and be prepared.
They also like to have goals for what they will do with their time.
Other people don't like to plan ahead.
They don't want their plans to limit them.
They want to be free to do different things.
They want to wait and see what will happen each day!
Gabe, we should make a plan to see exactly what we're going to say.
Right. Exactly, because we don't have a whole lot of time.
And we don't want them to think we don't plan.
Right. Let's plan ahead.
Yeah, we have to.
Yeah, and we don't want to... Yeah.
Andrea, I think we're starting.
Oh. Yes. Hi.
Hey, everybody.
OK, it's time for us to talk about our Read It paragraph together.
Gabe and I just made some plans ahead of time to see what we will talk about
with you.
Our Read It paragraph begins with a question.
Do you make plans?
Do you make plans?
Now a plan is something that you want to do.
When you think about your day, you might make plans - think about all the things
that you want to do for that day.
Gabe and I like to have a plan before we start teaching together.
Yes, we do. We need to have a plan.
Now you can use this word in other ways.
What are your plans for the weekend?
Do you have any plans for next week?
What about the holiday?
What are your plans for the holiday?
Well, the next part of our teaching plan is looking at another key word.
It's time to do that.
And our key word is: time.
Now time is something that you have to do things.
When you make plans, you think about how much time you have, and how much you
can do with that.
And so someone might ask you, "Hey, do you have time to help me?" You can say,
"Yeah, sure, I have time." Or if you're really busy,
you can say, "I'm sorry. I don't have a lot of time." Or, I don't have time now.
Maybe I can help you later when I have time..
Right. So it's good to plan ahead so you know you have enough time to do things.
And we do have time to talk about that next key word.
It is: ahead.
Now when you do something ahead of time or when you plan ahead, you do it before
you have to.
So Andrea, what kinds of things do you plan ahead for?
Well, I plan ahead for my day.
I think about all the things I need to do.
I usually plan ahead the night before the day begins.
OK, that's great.
Do you ever plan ahead for vacations or... or time away from work?
Oh, yes! I do plan ahead for that too.
I also plan ahead when I think about the clothes that I'm going to wear next...
the next day.
Oh, that's great!
So you can plan ahead for a lot of things.
Well, it's good to plan ahead.
Sometimes when I don't plan ahead, I wake up and I don't know what I'm going to
wear, and I don't know what I'm going to do.
And then I have no time, and I have to hurry everywhere.
Well, some people don't like to plan ahead because they think it limits them.
Now if something limits you, you can't do exactly what you want to do.
Now Gabe, what are some things that limit you?
Well, if I don't have a lot of money in my wallet, I can't buy some of the
things that I want.
So money can limit you.
Um... Oh, also, if I don't have a car or my scooter, then I have to go with
other people and go with... when they want to go.
So that could limit me too.
Transportation can limit you.
Money can limit you.
Weather can limit you.
If it's raining and you want to have a picnic, the weather can limit you.
And some people think plans limit them.
They want to be free.
Now, when you are free, you do what you want to do.
When you're free, you think about what you want to think about and do it.
Well friends, we have more to learn together.
I hope you have time.
Let's go and see Christina.
(Chinese).
And now let's continue with today's program.
Do you make plans?
No, I don't.
You should.
Organize your time well. Be prepared.
I'm a monkey. I don't need to plan.
Yes, you do.
Everyone should plan ahead.
I don't know how to plan.
I can help you.
What will you do today?
I'll play and sleep and eat bananas.
OK. What will you do tomorrow?
I'll play and sleep and eat bananas.
OK. What will you do next week?
I'll play...
And sleep and eat bananas?
Yeah, that's right.
You're right. Monkeys don't need to plan.
Yeah.
OK, now it's time to review our key words.
Say them with us.
plan.
plan.
What are your plans for tomorrow?
time.
time.
Do you have time to help me right now?
ahead.
ahead.
Ross is working ahead so he can go on vacation next week.
limit.
limit.
The rules limit us. We have to follow them.
And free.
free.
You are free to make your own decisions. You're an adult!
Well, we're free right now to go and enjoy the Word Brothers.
Hi, everyone. I'm Jim.
And I'm Tim. We're...
The Word Brothers.
We are similar.
But very different.
Yes, just like some English words.
Right. For example, base, B-A-S-E.
And bass, B-A-S-S.
These two words are similar.
But very different.
You see a base (B-A-S-E) in a baseball game.
In a baseball game, there are four bases.
That's right.
After a player hits the ball, he needs to run to all four bases to get a point.
A B-A-S-E, base is different from a bass, B-A-S-S.
A bass (B-A-S-S) is a kind of instrument.
It has strings and people can play it with their fingers.
A bass has a low sound.
It sounds like this...
Do you know how to play the bass?
It is a fun instrument to play.
Yes, it is.
So base.
And bass.
Can you see the difference?
Good. Until next time, this is Jim.
And Tim saying...
Goodbye.
