(Music).
Hello everyone, and welcome to Let's Talk in English.
I am Gabe.
And I'm glad you could join us this Saturday - my favorite day of the week.
What did we learn about this week, anyway?
Well, we learned about the difference between apartments and houses.
Do you live in an apartment or a house?
Uh, do you live in the city or the country?
You can practice asking these kinds of questions with your friends.
Of course, there are more kinds of homes than apartments and houses.
Maybe you live in a cabin made of wood, or on a river in a houseboat.
And how do you get from here to there or to anywhere?
We learned about different ways to travel.
Do you walk, ride a bike, ride a scooter, a motorcycle, take a bus or a taxi?
We learned many things.
And of course now it's time to review.
We have some questions for you soon.
So pay attention.
What is your home like?
In a big city, many people live in apartments.
There are usually many apartments in one building.
Apartments are on different floors.
Many families living in one apartment building.
In the suburbs or in the country, many people live in houses.
Usually only one family lives in a house.
Most houses have only one or two floors.
And they often have a yard.
Do you live in a house or an apartment, Susie?
I live in an apartment.
But I lived in a house before.
Was your house in the country?
It was in the suburbs.
My house had two floors and a big yard!
Why did you move to an apartment?
I moved to the city.
My apartment is close to work.
Do your like your apartment building?
Yes, it's a nice, big building.
It has many floors.
Do you know your neighbors?
I know some of them.
Tell me about your home, Lily.
I live in a big house with my family.
Our house has four bedrooms.
That is big!
Come to our home for a visit soon!
OK! I will!
Houses look different in different places.
You often see cabins in a forest or near a lake.
Cabins are usually made of wood.
Some homes are very close to water.
Some people build part of their houses over rivers.
Other houses are actually on a boat!
They are called houseboats.
In some places, people live in tents.
These people move often.
So living in a tent is convenient!
They can take their homes with them!
Mr. Sims, you have a very special house.
Is it near a river?
My house isn't near a river.
It's on a river.
You live in a houseboat!
Right. My house is made of wood!
I built it by myself.
Wow! Do you have any neighbors?
Yes! All the fish in the river are my neighbors!
Tell me about your home, John.
My family and I live in a tent!
You must move often.
Yes, we do. So our tent is very convenient.
Our home goes with us everywhere!
How do you move your tent?
Our "pet" helps us to move it!
What pet is that?
Our camel!
How do you get to work or school?
Do you live close to work or school?
Then you might ride a bike.
You can get some exercise on your way.
Maybe you live far from work or school.
You might drive a car.
Some people ride scooters or motorcycles.
You could also take a bus, train, taxi or subway.
There are many different ways to get around!
Hi, Ken. Did you ride your bike to work this morning?
Yes, I did. I can ride to work in 20 minutes.
That's great. And you get some exercise.
Yes. I like that.
How do you get to work, Lily?
I usually drive my car.
You have a car?
Yes. I take the bus sometimes too.
Is there a bus stop near your house?
No. It's about a mile away.
Then you get some exercise too.
Do you ever take a taxi?
I don't take a taxi to work.
Taxis are too expensive!
Do you ever ride a scooter or a motorcycle?
No. But can I ride your bike?
Now? Do you need to go somewhere?
No. I just like your bike!
Do you drive a car or use public transportation?
Which is better?
Having a car is convenient.
You can just get in your car and go.
When you use public transportation, you may need to change buses or subways.
However, you don't need to worry about parking or traffic.
Shopping is easier with a car because you don't have to carry things with you.
You can put them in your car, if you parked close to the store!
Do you have a car, Susie?
I used to.
Did you like it?
Yes, but I like public transportation better.
Really? Why?
I can read or work while I'm on a bus or subway.
I like that too.
And I don't have to worry about parking!
I don't like to park my car.
Do you like your car better than public transportation?
Yes. My car is convenient!
I can just get in my car and go.
Sometimes I have to change buses or subways a few times.
I don't like that.
I don't either.
My car is also good for shopping.
Why?
I can put things in my car.
I don't have to carry them with me.
That is nice.
There are different vehicles for different needs.
Do you need to go a long distance?
Going by airplane would be best.
Do you need to travel on water?
Of course, you'll choose a boat or a ship!
Do you need to travel in a place without good roads?
Then a jeep or a helicopter are good choices.
But there is one vehicle that no one wants to travel in.
What is it?
An ambulance!
So, Tina, tell us about your job.
I'm a travel writer.
I travel to different places and write about them.
That sounds fun.
How do you get places?
Do you drive, take a train or fly?
All of the above.
I love flying.
Anytime I travel by airplane is great.
That's good. Not everyone loves flying.
And once I rode in a helicopter.
That was exciting!
Tina, what were some of your favorite places?
I love South Africa.
I traveled by jeep and saw wild animals.
Fun!
And I enjoyed traveling by ship all around Southeast Asia.
Cool. Was there a place you didn't enjoy?
Yes. One time I was writing about tree houses, and I fell... a long distance.
Then I discovered one way I don't like to travel.
What's that?
By ambulance!
Hi, Ginger.
Oh, no! Ginger, what happened?
My arm got hurt.
Yeah, I know. I can see that.
But how did you hurt yourself?
I didn't hurt myself.
The ground hurt me!
So you fell down?
Yeah. I fell out of a tree house and hit my funny bone.
OK.
Hey!
I'm sorry, Ginger. It's not funny.
Uh, but speaking of houses, it is time for a question about this week's lessons.
How many bedrooms does Lily's house have?
Her house has four bedrooms.
Good job, Ginger. Give me five.
I can't.
Right.
Uh, do you have another question for everyone?
I do have one.
What vehicle does nobody want to travel in?
What vehicle does nobody want to travel in?
Nobody wants to travel in an ambulance.
Nobody wants to travel in an ambulance, like me.
You traveled in an ambulance?
Yeah. And it was really scarry and loud.
And my arm hurt. And I was crying.
Oh, Ginger, I'm so sorry.
You need a hug.
Ah! Ouch!
I'm sorry.
And friends, we need to take a break.
We'll be rightback.
