(Music).
Are you ready?
I'm ready.
Great! Lights.
Camera.
Let's Talk in English.
Hey everybody, my name is Gabe.
Hello, friends. My name is Andrea.
Today we are learning how to talk about apartments and houses.
Apartments and Houses.
Do you live in an apartment or a house?
Well Gabe, what about you?
Do you live in an apartment or in a house?
I live in an apartment right now.
I have lived in a house before.
But right now I live in an apartment.
What about you, Andrea?
Right now I also live in an apartment.
Well friends, we're going to learn how to talk about this together in English.
We have some great key words for you to learn like: home, city, building,
country and house.
You'll see all of these key words in our Read It.
So open your magazine and follow along.
Here we go.
What is your home like?
In a big city, many people live in apartments.
There are usually many apartments in one building.
Apartments are on different floors.
Many families live in one apartment building.
In the suburbs or in the country, many people live in houses.
Usually only one family lives in a house.
Most houses have only one or two floors.
And they often have a yard.
Our Read It starts with a question:
What is your home like?
What is your home like?
Now when you ask someone this question, you want them to describe their home, or
talk about the place where they live.
What is your home like?
And my home is very nice.
It's very comfortable.
I have a big living room.
I live with two other people, and so there are three bedrooms in my home.
We live on the seventh floor in an apartment building.
That's what my home is like.
That's a great answer. Thank you, Gabe.
And "home" is a key word.
Your home is the place where you live.
Well friends, we have another key word to talk about. It is "city." In a big
city, many people live in apartments.
A city is a place where many people live.
There are many apartments in a city and houses in a city.
You can take buses through a city.
Do you live in a big city?
Do you live in a big city?
Maybe you live in an apartment building.
If you live in a city and there's not much space for a yard, then there are many
tall buildings - tall apartment buildings where people live.
"Building" is a key word.
It's something that people make.
It can be a house or an office or a school or a hospital.
These are all different kinds of buildings.
That's right. And cities usually have many very big buildings or tall buildings
with many different floors.
You might go to an office building and go up to the 20th or even the 30th floor.
That would be a very tall building.
Well, apartments are on different floors in buildings.
But you might also live in a house.
Now Gabe, do you live in a house or in an apartment?
I live in an apartment.
I don't live in a house.
I have lived in a house before, but not anymore.
Actually, Andrea, do you live in a house or an apartment?
I also live in an apartment right now.
But I lived in a house before.
A "house" is like your own building.
There might be another house close to you.
But usually a house is a place where you live, and there are no other apartments
or other people, other families living in that place.
And so many cities don't have room for a lot of houses like this.
So you have to go to the country, or maybe you live in the suburbs.
A suburb is not right in the middle of the city.
It's kind of just outside, but not all the way in the country.
The "country" is another key word.
Country is a place that is very wide.
It has a lot of space.
And there are not many buildings around.
Would you rather live in the city or in the country?
If you like a lot of action, you might like the city.
But if you like to live in a place that is quiet and peaceful, you might like to
live in the country.
Now Gabe, what about you?
Where would you like to live?
Andrea, I do enjoy living in the city.
But I know some people that... who... who live in the city, but they also have a
country house.
They have a home in the country too, where they might go for vacation, or just
to get away from the noise of the city.
Oh, I would love to live in the country, have a big house in the country.
Oh, that sounds so nice.
Well friends, we have more to learn together right now.
(Chinese).
And now let's continue with our program.
Oh, many people live in big cities.
Yes. And many people live in apartments.

Ooh.
Families live on different floors.
Whoa, do you live in an apartment?
No. I live in a house. And my house has a yard.
That's nice. I live in a house too, you know.
You do?
Yes. I live in a tree house. I like it!
