Welcome back, friends.
I'm Gabe.
And I'm Ginger.
And we're...
The Word Brothers.
OK, well, we're not really the Word Brothers.
Jim and Tim are the Word Brothers.
But we're pretty good friends.
Yes, we are.
And we want to talk about what you learned from the Word Brothers this week.
Do you remember what two words they talked about?
I do! I do!
They talked about two words that make this sound...
That's right.
One is the number "eight".
And the other is the past tense of "eat".
And before we review their lesson, let's use those words in some sentences.
I'll start.
I have eight classes at school on Monday.
How do you spell that "eight"?
That's E-I-G-H-T.
That's right.
And here's my sentence.
I ate two pieces of pizza.
How do you spell that "ate"?
That's A-T-E.
Friends, good job.
Do you want to use those words in a sentence together?
Now let me try.
I ate eight pieces of pizza.
Hey! That's not fair.
Why didn't you share it with me, huh?
Ginger, I didn't really eat...
You ate more than me.
That's not fair! That's not fair! That's not fair!
All right, Ginger, Ginger, OK, OK.
Now right, OK, it's time for us to review the Word Brothers and some other
features from this week.
Here we go.
That's not fair! That's not fair...
Hi, everyone. I'm Jim.
And I'm Tim. We are...
The Word Brothers.
We are similar.
But very different.
Yes. Just like some English words.
Right. For example, eight, E-I-G-H-T.
And ate, A-T-E.
These two words sound the same.
They're similar.
But they are very different.
Eight, E-I-G-H-T, is a number.
It is the number after seven, and the number before nine.
Right. That's easy. Eight.
The number "eight" sounds like the word "ate," A-T-E.
"Ate" is the past tense of eat.
Yes. So I can say: I ate pizza for dinner last night.
You did? Why didn't I eat any?
You weren't home.
Uh, right.
Hey, that reminds me of a joke.
Really?
Yes.
Why is six afraid of seven?
I don't know. Why is six afraid of seven?
Because seven eight nine! Get it?
Seven eight nine.
The number "eight" sounds like the word "ate." Never mind.
Anyway friends, ate.
And eight.
Can you see the difference?
Good! Until next time. This is Tim.
And Jim saying...
Goodbye.
Do you have a pencil?
Of course!
Do you have your math book?
Sure! It's right here. Oh, no!
What's wrong?
I left my math book at school.
I can't study for the test.
Yesterday I was very sad.
Why was I sad?
Because I lost my pet fish.
It didn't swim, it didn't eat, and it didn't smell very good.
But today I am happy.
Why am I happy?
Because I got a new pet.
Oh, this is my pet.
My pet is so much fun.
He likes to play and walk around the house.
He likes to wear clothes.
My pet also likes to eat a lot of food, and read books, and sleep in the day.
He is very clean and doesn't make many messes.
Oh, I love my pet.
I can take him anywhere.
My pet sometimes likes to sleep in the same bed with me.
I don't like that very much.
But I know he feels safe with me.
My pet is really part of the family.
What about you? Do you want a pet?
If you want a pet like this one, then order it online at www.PetMonster.com.
(Music).
Hey, hey, hey. You will see a word.
Think of some other words that sound like that word and make a rap.
And the word for today is: chopstick.
What sounds like chopstick?
Uh, sick and...
picnic.
Picnic. Ah, and someone named Rick.
All right, we're going to make a rap.
First, slow. Here we go. Music.
This is a rap about a boy named Rick.
He went out with some friends to have a picnic.
But when he got home he felt really sick.
Because he had lunch with a dirty chopstick.
Faster now. Here we go.
This is a rap about a boy named Rick.
He went out with some friends to have a picnic.
But when he got home he felt really sick.
Because he had lunch with a dirty chopstick.
Eww! That's not good.
But hey friends, It's a Rap!
Throw those chopsticks away. They're dirty!
Well, those features are always fun.
We like having fun here on Let's Talk in English.
And of course, we hope to see you next time right here on Let's Talk in English.
Goodbye, everybody.
