Hello everyone, and welcome to Let's Talk in English.
My name is Gabe.
And it is Saturday, so we hope you have a chance to relax today.
But of course, we want to review this week's lessons with you.
This week we learned how to talk about different kinds of TV shows.
What kinds of shows do you remember?
Well, there are dramas, soap operas, sitcoms, game shows, talk shows,
cartoons...
I love cartoons.
What kind of TV shows do you like?
You know, we also learned about what happens on talk shows.
The talk show host interviews a guest.
These shows are really fun to watch.
Well, we learned about many more things.
Pay attention while we review because in a moment, someone is going to join me,
and we're going to ask you some questions about the lessons.
Here we go.
Do you like TV shows?
Many people do.
Some people watch game shows.
On a game show, people answer questions or play games.
They want to win money or prizes!
Some people watch dramas or soap operas.
These shows are serious.
A sitcom is another kind of show.
Sitcoms are funny, not serious!
Other kinds of shows are cartoons, news shows and travel shows.
TV stations make all kinds of TV shows!
We make many different kinds of shows here at the TV station.
We do! Our TV station makes a lot of shows.
But we don't have a game show.
Do you like game shows, Rob?
Yes. I love game shows.
I want to be on a game show one day.
Do you want to win money or prizes?
Both!
I like sitcoms.
You like funny shows?
I do! I love to laugh.
I like cartoons too.
I like sitcoms and cartoons.
But I really like serious shows.
So you like dramas.
Yes. I watch a different drama every day of the week!
I watch news shows every day.
Those are like dramas!
A talk show is a kind of TV show.
On a talk show, people talk about different topics.
A talk show usually has one or two hosts.
The host often interviews famous or interesting guests.
The host asks the guest questions.
Sometimes the host or a reporter asks regular people for their opinion about a
topic.
Many people work on a talk show.
Besides hosts and reporters, there are producers, directors and cameramen.
You're a good talk show host, Rob.
Thanks, Ken.
You're a good cameraman.
I appreciate that.
We have good jobs.
It's fun to work on Let's Talk!
I know.
I have always wanted to work on a talk show.
Really? Why?
People are interesting.
And when you work on a talk show, you talk to a lot of interesting people!
We have good workers on Let's Talk!
Susie and Lily are great reporters.
They are both really good at interviewing people.
And our producer and director do their jobs well too.
Besides the great workers, there's another reason our show is so good.
What's that?
We talk about the best topics!
You are working or studying.
You are tired.
You need a break.
What do you do?
People have different habits.
Some people get a cup of coffee or tea.
Others go for a walk or do some exercises.
A person may close her eyes and put her head on her desk.
Someone else might even wash his face!
How about you?
What is your habit?
Are you sleeping, Lily?
No. I'm just closing my eyes.
I'm taking a break.
I need a break too. I'm tired.
Where are you going?
I need some coffee.
Do you want some?
No thanks. Can you get me a cup of tea?
Sure. You always drink tea in the afternoon.
That's your habit.
How about you, Ken? What is your habit?
I always buy coffee.
Oh, right.
Do you want to come with me?
No. I am doing some exercises.
I'm starting a new habit.
That's good.
Rob! Are you washing your face?
Yes. I always wash my face in the afternoon.
That helps me wake up.
Well, we all have different habits!
We do things while we are working or studying.
We don't think about these things.
They are just nervous habits.
For example, some people bite their fingernails.
Others move their legs up and down.
Someone may make noises with his mouth.
Another person might play with her hair or tap her pencil on her desk.
Do you have any nervous habits?
Make sure your habit doesn't bother anyone around you.
Rob, are you nervous?
No. Well, maybe.
I'm always a little nervous before a show.
I know. You always make that noise.
What noise?
Like this.
Oh, sorry. I never noticed that.
Does that noise bother you?
Not really.
You just have a nervous habit.
But don't do it too much.
OK. I can stop doing it.
Thanks.
Now you're nervous.
Why do you say that?
You're biting your fingernails.
Oh, you're right.
It's a bad habit.
But I'm not nervous.
Then why were you biting your fingernails?
I just do things while I'm working.
I don't even think about them.
I see.
Sometimes I play with my hair.
That doesn't bother me.
But you should stop biting your fingernails.
You're right. Thanks.
At the start of a new year, many people want to make changes in their lives.
They set goals and think of ways to reach them.
Some people want to make physical changes, and become thinner or healthier.
But other people realize they need to change their thoughts.
They need to stop thinking negative thoughts and start thinking positive
thoughts.
They need to stop complaining and start being thankful.
Hey, Susie, what are you writing?
Your goals? Your shopping list?
No. I'm writing a list of things that I'm thankful for.
Oh. OK.
I'm reading this book called One Thousand Gifts.
That's a lot of gifts!
The writer realizes how many things she can be thankful for.
Then she writes them down.
Are other people doing this?
Yes! It's helping change people's thoughts... and their lives.
How can it change people?
Well, for example, some people often complain.
They don't like their body.
I hear girls say that a lot.
They can stop and think, "My body is healthy. I'm thankful for that.".
That's good.
When you do this every day, you start a new habit.
You think about good things instead of bad.
Cool. Maybe I should start a thank-you list.
Welcome back, everybody.
I'm here in the Jungle Cafe.
But I am not alone.
I'm with Ginger.
Who's Ginger, you ask?
Well, she's our pet monkey, of course.
Hi, Ginger.
Hi, everybody. Hi, Gabe.
Well Ginger, are you ready?
And friends, are you ready, because our first question is: Who interviews guests
on a talk show?
I know. It's uh... It's uh... It's the host, right?
That's right, the host.
The host interviews guests on a talk show.
The talk show host.
Now Ginger, I think it's your turn to ask a question.
OK. Uh... Oh, oh, here's the question.
What is Lily's habit in the afternoon?
Ooh, good question.
What is Lily's habit in the afternoon?
Do you remember?
She likes to drink tea in the afternoon, right, Ginger?
Yeah, that's right.
Well, that's great.
And right now it's time for us to go.
No, no, I have a question.
Oh. OK, what's your question?
Well, is... Should... Should um, people think negative thouhgts or positive
thoughts?
Should people think negative thoughts or positive thoughts?
That's easy, Ginger. Positive thoughts.
Those are good thoughts.
And here's something positive - a break.
Do you want to take a break?
Yeah, let's take a banana break.
Ooh, that soundsdelicious.
