Welcome back from the break, everyone.
If you’re a fan of Emily Osment, and you haven’t checked it out yet,
take a moment and visit her official website, which is listed for you there at
the bottom of page 47.
OK. For most of this article, we’ve been looking back on the life of 18-year-old
actress, Emily Osment.
And right before the break, we started looking at the present: What is Emily
doing now?
Finally, in this last section, we’re going to learn what we can expect from
Emily Osment in the future.
OK, our reading resumes on line 3 of page 47.
Emily Osment.
She released her first EP, All the Right Wrongs, in the fall of 2009.
Immediately afterward, she started working on her first CD,
which debuted this spring and includes songs written by Emily.
As someone who loves being busy, Emily has a schedule that should keep her very
happy.
She has acting, singing, writing, touring and charity events lined up for the
next year!
Emily once said, ”I’m trying to follow in my brother’s footsteps, because I know
he’s really talented.”.
But these days, rather than following, Emily is blazing a trail of her own!
Welcome back.
Just before the break, we learned that Emily is now 18 years old, and much to
her delight, her career includes music.
We go on to learn that she released her first EP called ”All the Right Wrongs”
in the fall of 2009.
Now if you release something used in this context, you’re talking about selling
something or making something available to the public.
And Chip, here it says that she released her first EP.
Right. And an EP is... uh... a way of talking about an ”extended play”.
And when we’re talking about an EP, we’re talking about an album, but not a full
album.
Usually a CD full of music will have 12 to 15 songs and that would be a full CD.
But here we’re talking about an EP, so it’s a CD or a collection of about 4 to 5
songs.
This one’s called ”All the Right Wrongs” and it was released in the fall of
2009.
So that wasn’t too long ago.
But immediately after releasing her first EP,
she started working on her first CD, which would be a full-length album
probably, as Chip said, maybe 12 to 15 songs,
which debuted this spring and includes songs written by Emily.
So Emily is not only a talented actress, but now she is also gaining her own
voice as a talented singer and songwriter.
Right. Yeah. She’s not only singing, but she’s also writing these songs.
I would think that these songs are coming from her heart as she is expressing
herself.
And she’s putting her thoughts into words, her thoughts into music.
And I would think...
Given her life, which is a pretty interesting life so far, I think these would
probably be pretty interesting songs.
I think so and I’ve not heard any of them, but I’m interested to listen to them,
just to see what she sounds like as a singer and also to see what she likes to
write her songs about.
After all, she has had a very full life for someone so young.
She has had a lot of experiences so far.
And I’m sure those experiences would be reflected in her songwriting.
Now our next paragraph starts off by talking about her as someone who loves
being busy.
Now I don’t know about you, but sometimes I actually like to be busy.
I don’t like to be too busy, Chelsea, but I do like to have a lot of things that
I’m doing.
I agree, Chip.
I think it’s good to stay busy. Otherwise, I think your days get kind of long
and kind of boring.
And usually if you’re not staying busy, sometimes you end up wasting time. And
so Emily is no different.
She’s a person who also likes to stay busy.
In fact, Emily has a schedule that should keep her very, very happy.
OK. So if her schedule is keeping her very happy, then that probably suggests
that it’s keeping her very busy.
Our article says that she has acting, singing, writing, touring and charity
events lined up for the next year.
Wow! That is a lot! It really sounds like she will be having a busy year as she
has all of these things lined up.
And if you have the... things that are lined up,
that means that you have things that are scheduled or planned for a long time to
come.
So not only does she have things like acting and singing and writing, but she’s
also touring.
And touring is of course what musicians do.
Once they release an album, they go on the road, and they performe their songs
in front of live audiences in the form of concerts.
And they’re very entertaining usually.
So that keeps her very busy, I’m sure.
But in addition to all of these, uh, different things that kind of promote who
she is,
she’s also doing something very good to help other people.
And that would be working with charity.
Right. And if she’s involved in charity events,
that means she’s doing events that are, uh, probably raising money to give to
people who need money,
or raising money and support for people who are in need, perhaps poor people.
So this sounds like she’s doing some very good things with this worldwide
recognition.
She’s doing good things with her fame.
I really like it when celebrities use their talent and their fame and their
money to help other people.
Now Emily once said: I’m trying to follow in my brother’s footsteps, because I
know he’s really talented, which is true.
But these days, rather than following, Emily is blazing a trail of her own.
Now Chip, what does it mean if someone is blazing a trail?
Well, if you’re ”blazing a trail,” that means that you are making your own path,
or making your own trail.
So she is going, or she wants to go and she is going where no one in her family
has gone yet, or no one in her family has gone before.
So she has a very interesting life.
We hope you have learned a little bit about Emily Osment’s life, and hopefully
her life has been a little bit of an encouragement to you.
Before we go, let’s watch today’s skit.
So, Lilly!
My name is Emily...
Emily Osment.
Oh, yeah. Sorry.
So, Emily, teen stars often encounter difficulties.
Yes. A lot of teens have big problems.
How have you avoided those problems?
Well, I have a close family.
My parents helped me a lot.
They decided I couldn’t drive and date when I was 15.
Wow! But that goes against the norm.
I know! All my friends were driving and dating.
What about now?
Now I’m 18. I’m driving and dating... a little.
But mostly I’m focusing on my career.
Hmm, acting, right?
Acting and music!
I’ve been working on a CD.
That’s great! Acting and music must keep you very busy.
And so do other things, like writing, touring and charity events.
Your brother is a talented actor and you are following in his footsteps.
Not anymore! I’m blazing a trail of my own.
Good for you, Lilly.
I’m not Lilly!
Oh, er... Gerti... uh... Haley Joel’s little sister, uh...
Emily! I’m Emily!
Oh, right. I knew that. Sorry, sorry.
Hi, everyone. I’m Michelle.
(Chinese).
And you don’t want to miss what comes next. Stay tuned for more.
One of the charitable organizations Emily Osment is involved with is the
Make-A-Wish Foundation.
This organization helps children and young people with life-threatening medical
conditions realize their dreams.
The wish could be anything, ranging from a trip to Disney World, to a meeting
with a superstar athlete or entertainer.
So thank you, Emily Osment, for being a good role model in the area of giving.
OK, friends, we are out of time.
Please come back tomorrow for another lesson here at Studio Classroom.
Bye-bye, everyone.
