(Music).
Hi, everyone.
And welcome to The Mall.
My name is Andrea.
We continue our lessons this week as we learn how to talk about taking trips and
vacations.
Woo! I just love talking about this.
I hope that you do too.
The title of our lesson today is Packing for a Trip.
Now this is something that is important before you take a trip.
And we’ll be learning more about that today.
Now here is something for you.
It is our FIND IT question.
What is an important part of a vacation?
I’ll say it again.
What is an important part of a vacation?
Listen carefully.
That is important.
Now let’s go visit Christina.
Hello. Welcome to the Information Desk.
I’m Christina.
(Chinese).
I think it’s time to visit our friends.
Hey, Pam.
Hi, Tom.
What are you doing?
I’m making a list.
I don’t want to forget anything for my vacation.
Oh, yeah!
Your vacation is next week!
Are you excited?
Yes!
I am going to New York!
Really?
Cool!
I talked to my mom, and she agrees.
New York is the right choice.
OK. Great.
I am excited about what we can learn together from Conversation A.
Are you excited?
I hope so.
Are you excited?
Well, this is a question that Tom asks Pam.
Is Pam excited?
Yes, she is excited about her vacation.
Are you excited?
Now this is a question that you can ask someone to find out if they are happy
about something that will soon happen.
Are you excited about the weekend?
Are you excited about our show today?
Are you excited about the mall?
I am and I hope that you are too.
Well, Pam is doing something in this conversation.
Tom asks her:
What are you doing?
Pam tells him that she’s making a list.
She is making a list.
Well, before our show started, I also made a list of all of our key words.
So I’m going to look at this list right now to find out what our first key word
is.
Now looking at my list, I see that our key word is...
list.
Well friends, a list is something that you make.
A list is something that you write many things down on.
We usually make lists to remember things.
Now let’s think about different lists that we might make.
Maybe you make a shopping list.
Before you go to a grocery store, you think about all the things that you need
to buy.
You write those down on your list.
Maybe you need milk and eggs and coffee.
Well, you write those down on your list.
Then you go to the grocery store.
You look at your list and make sure you buy everything on your list.
I also like to make lists of things that I have to do.
In the morning, I will make a list when I go to work.
I’ll write down all the things that I need to finish during the day.
And when I am finished one thing on my list, well, I get excited,
and then I make a check beside it on the list so I know that it is finished;
it’s done.
Well, let’s review these key words together now.
Well, we have one key word in this conversation, and it is...
list.
list.
I’m making a list, so I don’t forget anything at the grocery store.
Well, I hope that you are making a list of our key words,
or you can look at the list in our magazine.
Let’s continue with Conversation B.
Are you bringing your camera?
Of course.
You didn’t write ”camera” on your list.
I won’t forget my camera!
OK. I’ll write it down.
And you might want an extra camera battery.
Good idea.
What else do I need?
Let’s see.
You wrote down sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
Are you going swimming on your vacation?
I don’t now.
Well, you should take a swimsuit.
OK.
Pam made a list of everything that she needs for her vacation.
Now Tom is also looking at Pam’s list.
Did you remember some things that are on Pam’s list?
Well, let’s review them together.
What is on Pam’s list?
Well, she wrote down sunscreen.
That’s very important to protect yourself from the sun on vacation.
She also has a hat and sunglasses on her list.
And she also wrote down camera.
That’s also on her list.
Now does Pam plan to go swimming on her vacation?
Yes, she does.
So she also wrote swimsuit on her list.
Well friends, let’s look at this keyword together.
It is...
swim.
swim.
Now when you swim, you are in the water.
When you swim, you are moving your body through the water.
You can go swimming in a lake.
You can go swimming in the ocean.
If you don’t live close to a lake or the ocean, you can also go swimming in a
pool.
Do you swim?
Can you swim?
I love to swim.
Being in the water is one of my favorite things.
I can swim for hours.
Now when I take a vacation, I love to swim on a vacation.
Now if you do like to swim, there’s something very important that you need
before you go in the water.
Now what is that?
Well, it’s a key word.
It is swimsuit.
A swimsuit is something that you wear when you are swimming, when you are in the
water.
Now you might have different kinds of swimsuits.
Some swimsuits are one piece.
And some might be two pieces.
There are difference swimsuits for men and for women.
Make sure you have your swimsuit if you want to go swimming.
Well, now let’s review of our key words together.
The first one here is the verb:
swim.
swim.
Jim can swim well.
He swims in the ocean every day.
Our next key word is...
swimsuit.
swimsuit.
Put on your swimsuit.
Then you can go swimming.
Now some people also like to wear their swimsuit on a hot day,
even if they don’t go swimming.
Even if you just want to enjoy the sun on the beach, you might also wear your
swimsuit.
Well, let’s continue learning now with Conversation C.
What will you pack everything in?
My backpack.
So I can’t take too many things.
But you want to take all the important things.
Right.
Hmm, this is going to be hard.
Well, packing is an important part of a vacation.
True.
Let me know if you need any more help.
I will.
Well friends, we found something important in this conversation.
Yes, we found the answer to our FIND IT question.
What is an important part of a vacation?
We find out that packing is an important part of a vacation.
And yes, that is true.
You want to make sure that you take everything you need before you take a
vacation or go on a trip.
We see one of our key words in the answer to our FIND IT question.
pack.
Now at the beginning of the conversation, Tom asks Pam:
What will you pack everything in?
Now before you take a trip or a vacation, you pack all the things that you need.
You put those things into a bag or whatever you want to take along.
You pack it.
Now before you pack, it might be a good idea to make a list of all the things
that you need.
That can be your packing list.
You want to make sure that you pack everything that is on that list.
Now what is Pam going to pack everything in?
Well, she tells us that she’s going to pack everything in her backpack.
Now backpack is a key word.
A backpack is a kind of bag.
Let’s look at the beginning of that word.
it is ”back”.
B-A-C-K.
So it is a pack that you carry on your back.
That is a backpack.
So you can pack everything in your backpack.
Now when you are traveling, when you’re taking a trip or a vacation, a backpack
is a good bag to take along.
You can put many things in a backpack.
And it’s not that heavy when you carry it on your back.
Well, let’s review these key words together now.
The first one is the verb:
pack.
pack.
I’m going on a trip tomorrow.
I need to pack my things tonight.
And it’s true we do pack things before a trip.
But you might pack your bag every day before you go to school or before you go
to work.
And maybe you have a backpack.
Well, let’s review that key word:
backpack.
backpack.
Angela puts her books in her backpack and carries them to school.
Well done, everyone.
Now let’s take a break.
And we’ll be right back.
