Hi, everyone.
And welcome to Let’s Talk in English at The Mall.
My name is Andrea.
We continue our lessons talking about planning vacations.
So let’s see what our lesson is about today.
The title is Travel Plans.
Travel Plans should be a great lesson.
Well friends, I have something that I would like you to find.
Can you find it?
Here is today’s question.
What would Pam love to see?
What would Pam love to see?
Now do you remember where Pam is going for a vacation?
She is planning a trip to New York.
Well, let’s plan a trip to visit Christina.
Let’s go there right now.
Hello. Welcome to the Information Desk.
I am Christina.
(Chinese).
Don’t talk to strangers.
OK. Now let’s visit our friends at The Mall.
Hi, Pam!
I keep thinking about your trip to New York.
I’m so excited for you.
I’m excited too.
I’m reading books about New York.
Well, you’re in the perfect place for reading.
True.
I’m really looking forward to seeing some famous sights.
Oh!
I want to give you this.
What is it?
It’s an ad for Broadway shows.
Read the first part.
Pam is excited about her trip to New York.
She’s getting ready for her trip.
She’s reading books about New York.
Well, in Conversation A, we just saw Amy and Pam talking.
Amy tells Pam:
I’m so excited for you.
I’m so excited for you.
Amy is so excited for Pam.
Now this means that Amy is very happy for her friend Pam.
Pam is taking a trip to New York City.
Amy is happy for her,
so she can say:
I’m so excited for you.
So if something happens to a friend that you are excited about or that you are
very happy about, you can say:
Oh, I’m so excited for you.
Kimmy is going to have a baby.
Her sister June is so excited for her.
Can you think of a way that you would use this?
Well, I’m also excited for Pam.
Taking a vacation is always something very special.
Pam is looking forward to seeing some famous sights.
Well, New York City does have a lot of famous sights.
She’s looking forward to seeing them.
She’s getting excited to see these sights.
And I’m looking forward to teaching this word.
It is...
sight.
sight.
A sight is a famous or an interesting place to visit.
When you’re on vacation, you might go and visit many sights.
Sights can teach you about something.
Or a sight can just be very interesting to look at.
When you’re on vacation, you might go sightseeing.
Now when you are sightseeing, that means you’re traveling from sight to sight to
see many interesting things in the place that you are visiting.
Do you like to go sightseeing?
Some people love to go sightseeing when they are on vacation.
Some people just like to relax when they are on vacation.
Well, our key word is sight.
And now it’s time for us to review it together.
sight.
sight.
Tell me about the sights in your city.
What should I see?
Hey, it’s a great idea to think of the sights in your city.
If a friend comes to visit you, then you can show them the sights.
You can go sightseeing together.
Great job, everyone.
Well, let’s continue with our lesson.
Come to Broadway!
Are you planning a trip to New York City?
Make sure a Broadway show is part of your experience!
You will really enjoy seeing an exciting live performance.
Do you want to see a drama, comedy, musical or family show?
We have a show for you!
You can get tickets at many different places.
Children and students can get special discounts.
Read on for more information.
Well friends, we just read about Broadway.
The title of the reading is Come to Broadway!
Now Broadway is a famous sight in New York City.
Make sure a Broadway show is part of your experience.
Make sure.
Well friends, we want to make sure that we understand what that means.
Make sure is a key word.
It’s an idiom,
so let’s look at it together.
When you make sure to see something, that means you must see it.
You should see it.
So when our reading says make sure a Broadway show is part of your experience,
that means it is something that you really should do.
When you are writing a test or when you’re taking a test, make sure you read
each question carefully.
When you read each question carefully, it should help you understand.
So make sure you take time to read it carefully.
When you go to bed at night, make sure that the lock on your door is locked.
It’s something that you should do.
When you are outside in the summer on a very hot day, make sure you have
something to drink.
Make sure you have some water with you.
And friends, make sure that you practice this key word.
I know that you can do it.
Make sure a Broadway show is part of your experience.
Now experience is another key word here.
When you are traveling, when you are on vacation, you’ll have many different
experiences.
An experience is something that happens.
It’s something that you get to do or something that you learn about.
Taking a trip can give you many very interesting experiences.
We learn things from all of our experiences.
You know that’s why a lot of people like to take trips or take vacations,
so they have new experiences.
So they’re not doing the same thing every day.
Well, let’s take time to review our key words now.
Make sure you practice them with me.
The first one is the idiom:
make sure.
make sure.
Did you close the door?
Please look and make sure.
experience.
experience.
Our class took a trip there last year.
It was a great experience.
Great job, everyone.
Now it’s time for us to continue with Conversation B.
Here we go.
I would love to see a Broadway show!
I can help you get good tickets.
Great!
What else should I do on my trip?
You should go to the top of the Empire State Building.
Oh! That building is in a lot of romantic movies.
You’re right.
It’s a famous New York City landmark.
Maybe I will meet a handsome stranger there.
Maybe you will!
Our reading told us a lot about a Broadway show.
We learned more information about Broadway shows.
And friends, we see this in the answer to our FIND IT question.
Here is the FIND IT question.
What would Pam love to see?
What would Pam love to see?
Pam would love to see a Broadway show.
Well, I hope she can make that part of her experience in New York.
So she would like to see a Broadway show.
Is there anything else that she should do?
Well, Amy tells Pam that she should go to the top of the Empire State Building.
The Empire State Building.
Now this is a very famous building in New York.
It’s also a famous New York City landmark.
Now what’s a landmark?
Well, landmark is a key word.
A landmark tells you where you are.
Now there are famous landmarks.
When you see that landmark, you know what city you are in or what city is being
talked about.
Maybe you see a famous landmark in a movie.
Or you can be reading a book that talks about a famous landmark.
Can you think of a famous landmark?
Well, one famous landmark is the Eiffel Tower.
Now what city is the Eiffel Tower in?
It is in Paris.
So when you see the... Eiffel Tower, you think of Paris.
It is a landmark.
Can you think of another famous landmark?
Well, maybe you can think of some as you practice this key word.
We see another key word here.
It is...
stranger.
Pam says:
Maybe I’ll meet a handsome stranger there on the Empire State Building.
A stranger is a person who you do not know.
Now when you’re traveling, you might see many strangers.
Those are people that you do not know.
But once you meet that person, they’re not a stranger anymore.
Now when you’re traveling, you also want to be careful.
You don’t want to talk to too many strangers.
You have to be careful to know if you should talk to strangers or not.
Well, let’s review these key words together.
The first one is...
landmark.
landmark.
The 101 building is a famous landmark in Taipei.
stranger.
stranger.
I don’t know that woman.
She is a stranger to me.
Well done.
Now let’s take a break.
And then we will be right back.
