(Music).
Hi, everyone.
And welcome to The Mall.
Let’s Talk in English.
My name is Andrea.
Today on our show, we have a change of plans.
Well, we don’t have a change of plans.
We’re still going to follow the plan for our show.
But the title of our lesson today is A Change of Plans.
Now I wonder what this is all about.
So stay with us to find out.
Well, we also have something for you to find.
Today’s FIND IT question.
What did Pam find out?
I’ll say it again.
What did Pam find out?
Well, I know that you will find the answer.
Now let’s find out some more information at the Information Desk.
Let’s go and see Christina.
Hi, friends. Welcome to the Information Desk.
(Chinese).
I am proud of you.
OK. Now let’s visit our friends at the mall.
(Music).
Pam!
I heard about your exciting trip to New York!
Oh!
Well...
Amy told me you’re planning to fly.
Did you buy a ticket yet?
No.
Great.
I can get you a good deal on a train ticket.
No thanks.
The train is a wonderful way to travel.
You can enjoy the scenery on the way to the Big Apple!
(Music).
Many people are excited for Pam and her plan to go to New York.
In Conversation A, we see that Emma is also excited for Pam.
She’s excited about Pam’s trip to the Big Apple.
The Big Apple?
Now what is the Big Apple?
Well, here we are not talking about a fruit.
No, we’re not.
The Big Apple is another name for New York City.
So you can say I’m planning a trip to New York City or I’m going to the Big
Apple.
It’s kind of a fun name for the city.
It’s kind of like a nickname for the city.
Does the city you live in have a nickname?
Hmm, I’m interested to know what it is.
Well, Emma tells Pam about taking a train.
She says you can get a good deal on a train ticket to New York.
The train is a wonderful way to travel.
And here we see the key word:
travel.
It is a verb.
Now when you travel, you go from one place to another place.
When you take a trip, or you are on vacation, you travel to a new city or you
travel to a new place.
Now there are many different ways that you can travel.
You can travel by car.
You can travel by airplane or you can travel by plane.
Now how do you like to travel?
Do you like to travel by car, airplane or by train?
Well, Emma tells us that you can enjoy the scenery on the way to the Big Apple.
When you’re on the train, you can look at the scenery.
And we can look at this key word:
scenery.
scenery.
Now the scenery is what you see when you are looking outside.
When you’re traveling, you often see beautiful scenery around you.
Now if you’re traveling by airplane, you don’t see a lot of scenery.
But if you are traveling by train, you can look at the scenery as you are on the
train.
And since you’re on the train, that also means you’re not driving.
So you can focus or you can look at the scenery.
Sometimes the scenery changes a lot or sometimes it stays the same.
Well, let’s review these key words together.
The first one is the verb:
travel.
travel.
Anna likes to travel.
She takes a big trip somewhere every year.
scenery.
scenery.
When we drive, I like to look out the windows at the scenery.
Well done.
Now let’s continue with Conversation B.
Emma, the train does sound fun,
but I’m not going to New York.
You’re not?
No, I changed my mind again.
What do you mean ”again”?
For months, my mom and I planned to take a road trip together.
Where?
We were going to see her family in Norwood.
Oh, right.
I remember you talking about that.
But then my friend offered to have me visit her in New York.
Well, in Conversation B, we find out that Pam changed her mind again.
So she made one decision,
but then she made another decision.
She changed her mind.
Now do you remember Pam’s first plan?
Well, her first plan was to take a road trip with her mom.
They were going to go and visit some of their relatives in Norwood.
They were going to take a road trip.
Now what is a road trip?
Well, when you are taking a road trip, you are in a car; you are on the road and
you are traveling somewhere.
A road trip.
Now road trips can be a lot of fun.
Road trips can be a great experience.
You drive in your car.
Usually you have someone with you, maybe some friends or your family.
On a road trip, you can see a lot of great scenery as you are driving.
But if you are taking a road trip, you have to be ready for spending time in a
car.
A road trip.
Did you ever take a road trip?
Would you like to take a road trip?
Well, it looks like Pam might be taking a road trip with her mom.
She changed her mind again.
That means she changed her plan.
Well, let’s look at our key word in this conversation.
It is the verb:
offer.
offer.
Pam tells us that her friend offered to have her visit her in New York.
She offered Pam a place to stay.
Now when you offer something to someone, you ask them if they would like to do
something or if they would like to try something.
If someone comes to visit your house, maybe you offer them some food.
You ask them if they would like some food.
Or you can offer your friends a drink.
If someone in your family needs help, you can offer to help them.
You can say:
Hey, I can help you.
What can I do?
You offer your help.
Well, Pam’s friend offered her a place to stay.
She said:
Hey, you can stay at my place.
You don’t have to go to a hotel.
Now I would like to offer you the chance to say this key word and key would
sentence with me.
Would you like to do that?
Great.
The key word is...
offer.
offer.
Stan offered to drive me to school,
so I’ll go with him.
That was nice of Stan.
Well, now I would like to offer you the chance to learn more in Conversation C.
Let’s do that right now.
So you changed your mind.
Right.
But Iast night I found out my mom won’t go to Norwood without me.
That made me sad.
So you changed your mind again.
Yes.
I have trouble making decisions.
Well, it sounds like this was a hard decision.
But I’m sure you made your mom happy.
Yeah.
I’m proud of you, Pam.
Thanks, Emma.
(Music).
We found out a lot in this conversation.
We also found the answer to our FIND IT question.
Here it is.
What did Pam find out?
What did Pam find out?
Well, she found out that her mom won’t go to Norwood without her.
So her mom won’t take a trip without Pam.
So that is when Pam made a different decision about her travel plans.
Well friends, I have also made a decision.
I think that we are now going to look at our keyword together.
And the key word is...
decision.
decision.
Now when you make a decision, that means you choose something.
You decide to do something.
And we make decisions every day.
What are some decisions that you made today?
Well, one decision might be what you ate for breakfast.
Sometimes that can be a hard decision.
Maybe you ate cereal or maybe you had some fruit.
You made a decision.
What are some other decisions that you make every day?
Think about that.
Try to think some examples and then use this key word.
I’m proud of you because I know that you will do it.
Now let’s look at this key word.
It is...
proud.
proud.
When you are proud of someone, when you are proud of a person, you’re happy
because of something that that person did.
If your friend gets a very good score on a test, you can be proud of your
friend.
Your mother and father are proud of you when you do a good job.
And friends, I am proud of all of you.
You’re working very hard as we study and learn together here at the mall.
I have another decision.
Let’s look at these key words together.
The first one is...
decision.
decision.
Please make a decision.
Should we buy this apartment or just rent it?
proud.
proud.
Lisa’s dad is proud of her.
She is a good daughter.
And I am proud of all of you.
It’s time for us to take a break.
