(Music).
Hi, everyone.
And welcome to The Mall.
Let’s Talk in English.
My name is Andrea.
And today we finish our week of learning how to talk about travel plans.
Now maybe by the end of this week, you’re thinking of making your own travel
plans.
And I hope that the words we talked about together will help you.
Well, let’s see what happens in our lesson today.
I have something that I would like you to find.
It is today’s FIND IT question.
What do Tom and Amy think?
I’ll say it again.
What do Tom and Amy think?
Well, I think that you can find the answer.
Let’s continue to learn more with Christina at the Information Desk.
Hi, friends.
Welcome to the Information Desk.
I am Christina.
(Chinese).
Do you know how to read a map?
OK.
Now let’s visit our friends.
Hey, Pam.
We just ran into Emma.
She told us about your change of plans.
Yeah.
We think you made the right decision.
You do?
Yes.
You chose to be with family.
That’s always the right decision.
You weren’t selfish and I admire that.
Oh.
Well, thanks, you guys.
And you’re going to have a terrific road trip with your mom!
I hope so.
(Music).
Yes. I also think that Pam is going to have a terrific road trip with her mom.
She made a good decision.
Now what do Tom and Amy think of her decision?
Well friends, we found the answer to our question.
Now I’ll say the question again.
What do Tom and Amy think?
What do Tom and Amy think?
They think Pam made the right decision.
They say that choosing to be with family is always the right decision.
So Pam, you’ll have a great time on the road trip.
Well, we also see a key word here in Conversation A.
It is an idiom:
run into.
At the beginning of our conversation, Tom says:
We just ran into Emma.
Now what does it mean to run into something?
Well, here we see that run into a person means to meet them,
but you don’t plan on meeting them.
It’s kind of a surprise.
You run into someone.
You know I often run into friends here at the mall.
I don’t make a plan to meet my friends.
I just see them here as they are shopping.
I run into them.
You know, it’s always nice to run into a friend or to run into someone who you
haven’t seen in a long time.
We also learned something else about the decision that Pam made.
Amy says that Pam wasn’t selfish and she admires that.
Now we already learned this word:
selfish.
Remember if someone is selfish, that means they think about themselves.
They always think about themselves first.
They are selfish.
Well, Pam had two plans.
She could go and visit her friend in New York,
or she could stick with her plan, stay with her plan to take a road trip with
her mom.
Now I don’t think Pam was selfish either.
She didn’t just think of what she wanted to do - we know that she was very
excited about her trip to New York,
but she also thought about her mom.
And I also admire her decision.
Well, let’s review this key word together in Conversation A. It is the idiom:
run into.
run into.
I haven’t seen you for years.
I’m so happy to run into you today.
Well done.
Now let’s continue with Conversation B.
I love road trips.
When we stop at gas stations, I always buy a lot of junk food!
I always bring fruits and vegetables to snack on.
That’s a good idea, Amy.
I like reading books on a road trip.
That’s how I relax.
I can’t read in the car.
I get carsick.
You could get some audio books.
Good idea, Tom.
Thanks, you two.
Hahaha...
In Conversation B, we find out that Tom loves road trips.
He tells us that when they stop on road trips, they stop at gas stations and buy
a lot of junk food.
Well, we want to stop right now and look at this key word:
gas station.
gas station.
Now gas is what your car needs to keep moving.
Gas is like food that your car needs to keep going.
And where do you get gas?
Well, you get it at a gas station.
Now when you are on a road trip, it’s important to know where the gas stations
are.
You don’t want to run out of gas.
No, you want to make sure you have enough gas in your car to keep driving.
So make sure you stop at a gas station when you need to.
Well, Tom likes to stop at gas stations and buy junk food. Hmm, I guess Tom
thinks that junk food is a good snack.
Well, Amy tells us that she brings fruit and vegetables to snack on.
Now here we see the verb:
snack.
snack.
Now when you snack on something, that means you eat it.
But when you snack on something, you don’t eat a lot.
You just eat a little bit.
Now we’ve already learned this word snack as a noun.
A snack is something small that you eat between meals.
But our key word is a verb.
When you’re eating a snack, you snack on something.
You can ask your friend: What do you like to snack on?
Well, if you’re like Tom, maybe you like to snack on junk food.
Or if you’re like Amy, maybe you like to snack on apples or fruits or
vegetables.
Well, for now let’s review these key words together.
The first one is...
gas station.
gas station.
Let’s stop at this gas station.
We can use the bathroom and get some food.
The next one is the verb:
snack.
snack.
Don’t snack now.
You won’t be hungry for dinner.
Well, let’s continue with our lesson right now.
I am so thankful for my friends.
They really cheered me up.
I am going to have a great time with my mom on our drive.
I looked at maps online and found different roads to take.
These roads will make the trip longer,
but we’ll see more things.
We can take turns driving,
so it won’t be bad at all.
It will be fun.
I’m going to get some audio books now,
and then I’d better go pack.
It sounds like Pam is also excited about her road trip now.
She says:
I’m going to get some audio books,
and then I’d better go pack.
We just saw and listen to Pam as she was writing in her notebook.
So she’s going to get some audio books.
Now an audio book is a book that you listen to.
When you are on a road trip or when you are on a drive, listening to an audio
book is a good idea.
You can still enjoy the scenery around you,
but you can also listen to something.
You can learn something as you are driving or as you are on a road trip.
Well, we also see a couple of key words in Pam’s notebook entry.
She says:
I’m going to have a great time with my mom on our drive.
Now here we see drive as a noun.
Here a drive is the time that you are in a car.
Maybe you go on a three-hour drive.
Then you are in the car for three hours.
Now when you are on a road trip,
you probably will have a long drive until you get to the place that you want to
go.
But being in a car for a long time can be fun if you’re with friends and family,
and if you have an audio book to listen to.
We see another key word that will help you when you are on a drive or on a road
trip.
It is...
map.
map.
Now a map tells you where to go.
When you’re driving in your car, you can look at a map to find out where to go.
You can also look at the map of a city or a map of a country.
You can also look at a map of the world and see where different countries are,
and read the names of different cities in those countries.
Now let’s review these key words together.
The first one is...
drive.
drive.
I like the drive to Grandma’s house.
There are so many beautiful things to look at.
map.
map.
I don’t know how to get there.
I need to look at a map.
Now friends, we need to take a break,
and then we’ll be right back.
