Well, we are very happy to have Tom here with us again today as we learn how to
talk about summer activities.
Now Tom, do you enjoy summer?
Of course.
I enjoy summer.
I love the hot weather in summer.
I like that I can have a lot of ice cream and I can eat and drink a lot of cold
things.
And I also like swimming in the summer.
And I also like to do some shopping, but not as much as Pam and Amy like to shop
in the summer.
Well, that’s true.
One fun thing about this season of summer is getting summer clothes.
And we’ll talk more about that.
For now let’s look at this key word:
summer.
Well, summer is a season.
Summer is usually the hottest season.
And it’s a season where maybe you have more holidays.
You don’t have to go to school.
It’s a season to enjoy time outside.
That’s right.
If you are at student, then summer is exciting because then most everybody has
summer vacation.
So do you have summer vacation?
Do you like summer vacation?
Also do you like to buy summer clothes?
Well, one thing that you might need to buy in the summer are some shorts.
And shorts is also a key word here.
Shorts are something that you wear.
Shorts cover the bottom part of your body.
You wear them like you wear a pair of pants.
But shorts are not long like pants.
They are short.
And that’s how we get the word:
shorts.
That’s right.
But make sure you don’t just say I am wearing my short today.
No. You must say I am wearing my shorts today.
Shorts always has an ”s” at the end.

That is important to remember.
Now wearing shorts is something that we do in the summer.
But you can’t wear shorts everywhere.
Shorts are usually more casual than other clothes.
We don’t often wear shorts to work if you work in an office or in a building,
right?
No. you would still wear long pants in an office.
But you would wear shorts outside if you’re walking around.
Especially if it is a nice hot summer day out, you want to wear shorts.
So Tom, do you wear shorts when you work at the movie theater?
Well, when I work at the movie theater, I have to wear what I’m wearing right
now.
I can’t usually wear shorts.
My manager won’t let me.

other times of the year.

Well, biking is a summer activity.
On a nice day, you can take your bike outside and bike for a few hours.
Hiking is also another popular summer activity.
Do you ever go hiking in the summer?
I like to go biking.
Biking is also a fun activity,
and that’s a fun activity any time of the year.
And I also like to swim.
So swimming can be another activity.
Well friends, what kind of activities do you like to do?
Well, we have another key word here.
It is...

A boat is something that you can travel on the water in.
A boat.
Earlier this month, we learned the key word:
ship.
A ship is a very big boat.
In our conversation, we’re talking about a canoe.
And this is a kind of boat.
A canoe is small and usually maybe two or sometimes four people can go in a
canoe.
But not a lot of people can be in this kind of boat.
So is a canoe a kind of summer...
Uh, going in a canoe, is that a summer activity?
Well, yes, it can be.
When you go in a canoe, or we can also use this as a verb, you go canoeing.
You can go canoeing.
You can go for a boat ride or a ride in a boat.
And another summer activity is reviewing key words,
so let’s look at these words:

That sounds like good exercise.

canoe trip.
