(Music).
Hi, everyone.
And welcome to The Mall.
We are so glad you’re here again today.
My name is Andrea.
Today’s lesson is called Feeling Angry.
Well friends, I am not feeling angry.
Are you?
I hope not.
Get ready as we learn new things to talk about your feelings together.
We have some thing that we would like you to find.
Can you FIND IT?
The question is:
What advice does Emma give Pam?
What advice does Emma give Pam?
Well friends, here is some advice.
Listen carefully to our lesson today.
And you will find the answer.
Are you ready?
Yes!
Good.
Well, let’s begin.
Welcome to the Information Desk.
(Chinese).
anger.
Don’t keep your anger inside.
Let’s go see what Emma and Pam are doing at the bookstore.
Hi, Pam.
You look happy.
Hi, Emma.
I’m trying your trick,
but it’s not working yet.
My trick?
You know.
You act like you’re happy,
and then you start to feel happy.
But I still feel unhappy.
Well, my ”trick” isn’t like turning a light on and off.
Changing your emotions takes time.
Oh. OK.
I’ll keep trying.
This is great.
Pam is trying Emma’s trick.
Now do you remember what Emma’s trick is?
You act like you’re happy,
and then you start to feel happy.
You can use this for other emotions as well.
You can act like you’re excited.
And then you’ll start to feel excited.
Or you can act like you are awake.
And then you will start to feel awake.
Now Emma wasn’t sure about her trick.
Pam says:
I’m trying your trick.
And Emma says:
My trick?
Now a trick is something that can help you do something.
Maybe you have a trick to remember new words in English.
A trick can be to write down all the new words that you learn five times.
If you write the word down five times, that’s a trick to help you remember each
word.
Do you have any tricks to help you learn new words?
Well, Emma’s trick is to help you when you’re feeling sad.
I’m glad that her trick is working for Pam.
But Pam says that it’s not working right now.
She still feels a little unhappy.
Well, I am happy to talk about this key word.
It is...
unhappy.
Now when you are unhappy, that means that you are not happy.
UN-.
We see these two letters at the beginning of the word.
Sometimes when we see UN- at the beginning of a word, it means ”not”.
Unhappy means not happy.
Another word, another example of this is lucky.
You can be lucky.
Or you can be unlucky.
U-N-L-U-C-K-Y.
When you’re unlucky, you are not lucky.
Well, I think that Pam is lucky to have a friend like Emma.
Emma is helping her.
She’s giving her a trick to help with her emotions.
And I think that the trick will start working soon.
All right, friends.
Let’s review our key word:
unhappy.
unhappy.
Wanda didn’t do well on the test.
She feels unhappy.
Well, I’m sorry she feels unhappy.
But maybe she can try Emma’s trick.
Well, Emma does say that the trick isn’t easy.
It’s not like turning a light on and off.
When you turn a light on, the light comes on.
It happens right away.
But this trick is not like that.
Well, we do have more to learn.
So let’s keep listening as Emma and Pam keep talking.
So what is bothering you?
One of my customers made me feel bad.
She was in a hurry and yelled at me for being too slow.
I’m sorry.
Then we didn’t have the magazine she wanted.
I gave her a different one,
and she left without paying for it.
Wow.
She sounds angry.
You’re right.
Now I’m angry.
Hmm. I might have another ”trick” for you.
Well, what is bothering Pam?
What is making Pam feel unhappy.
Well, Pam tells us that one of her customers made her feel bad.
The customer was in a hurry and yelled at Pam for being slow.
Well, that’s not very nice.
I understand why Pam feels unhappy and why this is bothering her.
The customer yelled at her.
Now yell is one of the key words.
When you yell at someone, you use a loud voice.
Now sometimes we have to yell at people.
If one of your friends is far away and you want to say hello,
Well, then maybe you have to yell hello so that your friend will hear you.
It’s OK to yell sometimes when you have to.
But it’s not nice to yell when you are angry.
When you yell, when you’re angry, you usually use words that aren’t very nice.
So be careful.
Try not to yell.
Try to use a regular voice when you’re talking,
even if you are angry.
So this is bothering Pam.
Emma says that the customer sounds angry.
Now we’ve used this word a lot to talk about feelings.
And what does it mean to be angry?
Well, when you are angry, are you happy?
No.
When you are angry, you are unhappy.
We learned another word this week that is kind of like angry.
It is mad.
You can be mad or you can be angry.
They both have a similar meaning.
You are not very happy.
Well, I hope that talking about what happened with Emma will help Pam.
And I also think that Emma’s trick will start to help her.
Well, we also review the key word that we just talked about.
That’s a little trick here on our show to help you remember.
So let’s review the key words from this conversation together.
The first one is...
yell.
yell.
I’m right here.
You don’t need to yell.
The next one is...
angry.
angry.
Someone took my bag.
That makes me angry.
Well friends, let us continue our lesson.
Next we are going to listen as Pam writes in her notebook.
Here we go.
Emma gave me some interesting advice.
She told me to exercise or to hit my pillow when I’m angry.
She said that would get rid of my anger.
Hitting my pillow sounded more fun than exercising.
But I try exercising first.
I do feel a lot better now.
I’m glad Emma’s advice was helpful.
Emma gave Pam advice.
She gave her two tricks to help her feel better.
And they are both good tricks.
She has good advice for her friends.
We found the answer to our FIND IT question.
Friends, did you find it?
The question is:
What advice does Emma give Pam?
What advice does Emma give Pam?
Emma told Pam to exercise or to hit her pillow when she is angry.
That is another trick.
Exercise or hit your pillow when you are angry.
Interesting.
We do find another key word here.
It is the verb:
hit.
hit.
Now when you hit something, you usually use your hand to touch it.
But when you hit it, you use your hand in a stronger way.
I can use my hand to touch my clipboard.
Or I can use my hand to hit the clipboard.
It makes a little bit more noise, doesn’t it?
When you hit something, it... it can hurt.
We shouldn’t hit things or hit people.
But you might need to hit something at times.
If you hit a pillow, that’s OK.
Maybe it will help you if you’re feeling angry.
Interesting advice.
Well, Pam said that this trick is supposed to help get rid of her anger.
When you get rid of something, you take it away.
You get rid of your anger.
You get rid of bad feelings.
You get rid of things that you don’t want or things that you don’t need.
Getting rid of anger’s a good idea.
Anger is also a key word.
Anger is a noun.
You can say I am angry.
That is the adjective.
Or I have anger.
That is the noun.
If we have anger, we want to get rid of it.
So maybe you can exercise or hit a pillow.
Those are two of Emma’s tricks.
Well, let’s review these key words together now. Say them with me as we look at
our key word sentences.
The first key word is...
hit.
hit.
Don’t hit people.
That is not nice.
The next one is...
anger.
anger.
Callie has been hurt a lot.
That’s why she has so much anger.
All right, friends, let’s take a break.
And we’ll be right back.
