(Music).
Hi, everyone.
And welcome to The Mall.
Let’s Talk in English.
My name is Andrea.
And today we finish our week of learning how to talk about the weather.
Our friends are at the Jungle Cafe and we know that there is a storm outside.
So we’re going to join them again at the Jungle Cafe today.
But before we go there, I have something I would like you to find in today’s
lesson.
Our FIND IT question is:
What is the weather like now?
I’ll say it again.
What is the whether like now?
Well, listen carefully.
I think someone is going to give a weather report in the conversations.
It’s time for us to visit Christina.
She is at the Information Desk ready to give you some information.
Hello. Welcome to the Information Desk.
(Chinese).
Do you know the title of the book?
Great.
Now let’s see what our friends are doing.
Hi, guys.
Hey, Emma.
Can I get a cup of hot chocolate?
Sure, Tom.
Watching the storm makes me want some hot chocolate.
Yeah, hot chocolate sounds good.
I’ll take some too.
OK.
The weather is really crazy today.
What is the weather like now?
It’s not snowing, is it?
No.
What is the weather like now?
It’s not snowing, is it?
No, friends.
It is not snowing.
But Tom is right.
He says the weather is crazy today.
The weather is crazy.
Crazy is a key word,
so let’s look at this word together.
When something is crazy, it is strange and different.
When we say that the weather is crazy,
that means it is strange and different, or maybe the weather changes a lot.
The weather is crazy.
Now this isn’t always a very nice word to use.
It’s OK if you use the word ”crazy” to talk about the weather, or you can say:
This book I’m reading is crazy.
It’s kind of strange and different.
Crazy can also sometimes be used to talk about things that are very exciting.
But you don’t want to say that a person is crazy.
That’s not very nice.
Maybe someone is acting crazy.
We can say:
Timmy was acting crazy after he ate a lot of candy.
Well, I agree with Tom.
The weather is crazy.
It keeps changing.
It was raining.
Then there was thunder and lightning.
It turned into a thunderstorm.
So yes, the weather is crazy.
But at least it is not snowing.
There is no snow falling from the sky.
But let’s look at this key word.
It’s the verb...
snow.
Now friends, when it snows, that means it is very cold outside,
because when water falls from the sky, it is not water anymore.
It turns into snow.
Now when it snows, it looks like these little white things are falling from the
sky.
We call that snow.
It can also be a noun.
When snow falls from the sky, it is snowing outside.
Well, it’s not snowing,
so the weather is not as crazy as it could be.
Friends, let us review these key words together.
Say them with me.
crazy.
crazy.
Randy is acting crazy today.
I don’t know why he is being so strange.
The next one is the verb:
snow.
snow.
In Canada, it snows a lot in the winter.
Well, let’s continue to see what happens with this crazy weather as our friends
keep talking about it in Conversation B.
Snow wouldn’t surprise me.
We’ve had almost every other kind of weather today.
I know.
This morning it was cloudy.
At lunch it was warm and sunny.
Then the clouds came back.
Then it rained.
Now it’s really windy with thunder and lightning.
Actually, now it’s foggy.
Now it’s foggy?
Oh, no.
I’m not driving home until it clears up.
Then we might be here a while.
Yes, the weather is crazy today.
We learned many words to talk about the weather.
It’s sunny.
It’s cloudy.
It’s rainy.
And we learned another word in this conversation.
It’s foggy.
Well friends, let’s look at his word foggy.
F-O-G-G-Y.
We see the noun ”fog,” F-O-G, in this adjective.
Now what is fog?
Well friends, when the clouds come low, closer to the earth, we call that fog.
And when there is a lot of fog outside, it is foggy.
Now when it is foggy outside, sometimes it is hard to see.
You cannot see very far when it’s foggy.
So it can be dangerous if you are driving on a foggy day.
Well, we also see this word in the answer to our FIND IT question.
The question is:
What is the weather like now?
Well, Tom tells us that the weather is foggy.
So Tom gives us a little weather report.
The weather is foggy.
Well friends, we also have a key word here.
That is cloud.
Now earlier this week we talked about the adjective cloudy.
When it is cloudy outside, that means that there are many clouds.
A cloud is something that is white.
They’re often big and you see them in the sky.
Sometimes you see clouds when the sky is blue.
You might see a few clouds.
It’s actually very beautiful.
But when there are many clouds, we say it’s a cloudy day.
And if there is a storm, there are often many clouds and the color of the clouds
changes during a storm.
Clouds are often very dark, maybe even gray.
And well, it’s not very nice to see dark, gray clouds.
That’s when you know that a storm is coming.
We have another key word in this conversation.
It is...
while.
while.
Now when we talk about a while, we are talking about a length of time.
You can also say some time.
So if you stay somewhere a while, then you stay there for some time.
Well friends, let’s take a while to review our key words together.
How does that sound?
The first one is...
cloud.
cloud.
The white clouds look really pretty in the blue sky.
The next next one is...
foggy.
foggy.
It’s really foggy now.
I can’t see very far outside.
And then we have...
while.
while.
Can you stay and talk a while?
Well friends, let’s continue with our next conversation.
Maybe we could play a game while we wait.
That sounds fun.
What game should we play?
How about the game where you act something out without talking,
and the others guess?
Sure!
Let’s do movie and song titles.
OK.
Amy should go first.
It was her idea.
OK.
Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head!
Yes!
That’s the perfect song for today!
Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head.
Hahahaha...
Well, that looks like a fun game to play.
Now let’s review how to play the game.
Amy tells us that you act something out without talking,
and then the others guess what you are acting out.
Well, our friends are acting out the titles for songs and for movies.
Well, title is one of our key words here.
A title is the name of something.
The title of a book is the name of a book.
The title of a movie is the name of the movie.
You might also be looking at a picture online,
and then you see the title or the name of that picture.
Well, many of us like to sing songs.
And you usually know the title of the song that you are singing.
Well, I think that Amy did choose the perfect song title for a rainy day.
What do you think?
Do you know that song?
Well, maybe you can try to sing it with a friend.
For now let us review this key word together.
It’s your turn to practice it with me.
The key word is...
title.
title.
What is the title of the book you are reading?
Great job, friends.
It’s time for us to take a break.
