Hello, and welcome to Studio Classroom.
My name is Gabe.
And my name is Carolyn.
And we have a great lesson today.
That's right.
We are continuing to learn about Winter Accessories and what is in fashion this
season.
Yesterday we talked about gloves and scarves, but there is much more to winter
fashion than just those two accessories.
You're right about that.
There is a lot to learn.
So let's start with the first reading for today starting with Warm winter
fashions.
Then we'll visit Michelle in the Language Lab to learn some new words.
So open up your magazines and get ready to practice your English as we talk
about Winter Accessories.

Winter Accessories.
Warm winter fashions.
Fur headbands are nice and practical because they guarantee warmth and look
pretty.
This season you'll even see them worn around the neck like a fur collar or
scarf.
Real fur is enjoying popularity once again, but fake fur can be just as soft and
warm.
It's also a much kinder choice for the animals.
Hats are trendy this season with lots of designs for men and women to choose
from.
Both will enjoy berets, caps, turbans, knitted hats, fedoras and more.
With such a wide selection to choose from, you'll find one that's right for you.

Well, fashion is always changing.
And this is true for something as simple as headbands.
Headbands are nice for keeping your head warm, but now they are even being used
to keep your neck warm.
From the article, we learn that some headbands are designed to not only be worn
on your head but also around your neck like a scarf.
This is a pretty interesting idea.
Designers always seem to be trying to push the limits of fashion.
Gabe, that's a great phrase.
I know.
To push the limits of something.
For example, you could say the scientist pushed the limits of medical treatments
with his research.
You could also say the designer pushed the limits of the fashion industry with
her new line of shoes.
Something else that might be pushing the limits with some people is the use of
fur in many of this season's clothes and accessories.
That is true.
Not everyone likes the idea of using real fur in fashion because they want to
protect animals.
And you can't blame them.
Lots of people care about animals.
But other people disagree because fur is beautiful and warm.
It is also natural and a more original source of clothing than other materials.
But fake fur can be just as nice, doesn't harm animals and is even less
expensive.
So real and fake fur, both have their good points and their bad points.
But whichever you prefer, there are many fur-inspired looks this season.
Another trendy accessory this season is the hat.
That's right.
And that's a great word: trendy.
This is another word used to describe something that is popular or hot right
now.
Ah, yes, that word hot and trendy.
For example, long gloves are trendy this season.
That's right, we learned that yesterday.
Animal print scarves are also very trendy.
And like the scarves we talked about yesterday, hats can be enjoyed by men and
women alike.
That's right.
You'll see in the article that there are lots of designers... or designs for men
and women to choose from.
The designers have been very busy.
Hmm. Well, I think that is a great sentence to look at with Liz.

Our focus today is on the sentence pattern: [subject] +[verb] with lots of
[something] to choose from.
This is a great sentence pattern to use when you want to describe how something
offers a lot of variety.
For example: The language center will be open this summer with lots of courses
for community members to choose from.
Or: The restaurant has a new menu with lots of seafood dishes for guests to
choose from.
Or: The ice cream store offers fifty different ice cream flavors with lots of
toppings to choose from.
So give this sentence pattern a try.

There certainly are a lot of different hat styles to choose from.
Berets, caps, fedoras, and the list goes on.
It's great that there is such a wide variety of styles out there.
With such a wide selection to choose from, I'm sure that you'll find one that's
just right for you.
I'm sure you will, too.
Is there a certain type of hat that you like to wear in winter, Gabe?
Hmm, certain kind of hat I want to wear in winter?
Well, I do like wearing little beanies.
I used to have one with a little puff at the top when I was a kid.
I actually like the idea of wearing kind of a top hat.
I know they're not in style right now, they're not fashionable.
But top hats seem very gentlemanly, like something a gentleman would wear even
in the winter.
What about you?
Well, long gloves are back in style, so maybe top hats will come back soon.
But I like to wear knitted hats that fit tight against my head because they keep
me nice and warm and protect my ears.
Well, those are many different kinds of hats we talked about.
