Hi, everybody.
Welcome to Studio Classroom Worldwide.
Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to study with us.
We appreciate that.
My name is Steve.
Well, hosting a party - that's the topic of today's lesson.
Is it easy or is it hard?
Well, I'm not going to lie.
There's some planning.
There are details to keep track of, and maybe a little stress with not knowing
whether people will come or not.
And if they do come, will they have a good time?
Having said that, being a host doesn't have to be intimidating.
By following a few tips, not only can you throw a fun party for your guests, but
you can relax and enjoy the party as well.
Now then let's jump into the lesson "How to host the perfect party" on page 24.
(Music).
How to Host the Perfect Party.
Planning a party?
Check out these helpful tips.
It's the season for holiday parties - a time for celebration!
But if you're planning the party, it might feel more like a time for stress!
Avoid the anxiety, and host a party your friends won't forget with these simple
tips.
Think about how many guests you have room for.
Decide what you would do at your party.
Will your guests be eating a meal, or will they be doing some kind of activity?
Let them know in advance.
(Music).
Hello, friends.
Thank you so much for joining us.
My name is Kaylah.
My name is Ryan.
And friends, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
Everywhere you go.
So what are you going to do?
Are you going to host a holiday party?
That's right.
During the Christmas season, it's often, well, something that people do - to
host a party.
If you host a party, that means you have a place and design the party for your
friends to join you at.
That means you're planning it, and you are preparing everything for everyone
else.
So the question is: How do you host a perfect party?
Ooh. Now that is a good question.
Maybe some of you are planning a party right now.
If you are, you should check out these helpful tips to try and have the perfect
party.
OK.
It's the season for holiday parties - a time for celebration.
OK, so a season for something.
Ryan, doesn't season usually mean like spring and summer, fall and winter?
What is this season? It's winter.
Yeah. Well, this season has a similar meaning.
It means it's the time of year for something, or perhaps the time, the general
time when something is appropriate.
That's right.
People are getting ready to host holiday parties.
Now if you're planning a holiday celebration, you want it to be fun and
exciting.
That's right.
A celebration is a party.
It's supposed to be fun.
But if you are the one who is planning the party, it might feel more like the
time of year right now instead of being fun, it feels like stress.
That's right.
Now quite often when you're planning a party, you get stressed out.
And you just want to have a good party; you want people to have fun.
You want to have fun.
You want everything prepared.
But that's not easy.
It can be stressful.
So what are you going to do?
Well, that's a good question, Kaylah, because "stress" means you feel worried.
It's the feeling that you have when there is too much to do and too little time.
So what can you do?
Well, avoid the anxiety, and host a party your friends won't forget with these
simple tips.
All right, so.
If you are hosting a party, you might feel stressed, but you might also feel
anxiety.
"Anxiety" is a feeling of nervousness or worry because there's too much to think
about.
It's anxiety.
Anxiety is about something that might happen or you're planning to happen, but
you're not exactly sure if it's going to work.
So anxiety and stress are very much the same thing.
And when you're planning a party, it's something you fight often.
So let's look at these simple, easy tips to help your party be a success.
That's right, friends.
Try to remember these.
Let's start with the first tip.
It's think about how many guests you have room for.
Yes. Now I have made this mistake before.
I had an apartment that was kind of small but I felt like it was big enough, so
I invited all kinds of people over.
And then we all ended up standing around because there was just no room for
anyone.
It was too big.
So make sure you know how many people you should invite so you don't end up with
a party that's squishy, too tight.
That's right.
That's right.
Well, "guests" are the people that will join you for an event.
And so think about how many people you can have there.
Don't just think about the number of people you want there, think about how many
you have room for.
OK. I have my number now.
Now decide what you will do at your party.
All right.
This is probably, I think, Kaylah, one of the most important things.
If you don't decide what you will do, then your guests will just come and stand
there.
Will your guests be eating a meal or will they be doing some kind of activity?
Decide.
Have you ever been to a party where there was no plan?
You get there and you all stand around looking at each other wondering: Now what
are we going to do?
So don't let that be your party.
Plan in advance.
Are you going to serve a full meal?
That's right.
Of course, a full meal means you will eat either breakfast, lunch or dinner, not
just eating small, little snacks.
So if you are eating a meal, well, plan that in advance, like Kaylah says.
That means plan ahead of time; plan early.
Or will you be doing some kind of activity?
Now an "activity" is something that is done for enjoyment, especially at an
organized event, like a party.
So an activity is what you're going to have all your friends doing, all the
guests come together to interact with one another.
It's for them to do something instead of just sit there.
That's right, Kaylah.
There are many fun Christmas activities that we can do this time of year.
And you can do things like play games or tell stories about Christmas at your
party.
Now most importantly, though, once you've decided what you're going to do, let
your guests know in advance.
That's right.
Let them know before they come so they're not left wondering: Well, what are we
going to do at your party?
I went to a party once, and I just assumed there was going to be food because
it's a party, there's usually food.
And I get there, and there is no food.
And then the rest of the night, I was just kind of hungry the whole night.
It's a little awkward, and it's...
So make sure you tell your guests what they should be planning on doing.
This is good advice here, friends.
But it's not all of the advice.
We have a few more tips coming up for you in a little bit.
But for right now, enjoy the skit.
Christmas is coming.
It's time to celebrate.
It's the season for holiday parties.
I love parties!
Me too.
Let's plan one.
No, thanks.
I love going to parties, not planning parties.
Hosting a party will be fun, fun, fun!
You mean stress, stress, stress!
It's easy.
I have some simple tips to avoid anxiety.
Simple tips?
Yes.
First, think about how many guests to invite.
About five.
Uh, invite 20.
That's plenty.
Twenty?
Next, decide what to do.
Eat or have activities?
Do both!
Serve lots of food and have lots of activities.
How stressful!
Here's another tip.
Clean your house.
Oh, my place is pretty messy.
It sure is.
Better start cleaning right away.
Oh, dear.
And choose food that's easy to make and serve - pizza, pasta, chips, drinks,
desserts.
Will I have time?
Sure! The party isn't until Saturday.
Saturday?! That's short notice.
It's OK.
I already invited the guests.
Oh, no! Stress.
No problem! I gave you all these tips.
Stress, stress, stress.
Oh, one final tip - relax.
Have fun.
See you at the party.
Aren't you going to help plan?
I gave you all those tips.
What more do you want?
