Welcome back, friends.
The Biodiversity Adventure Area is designed so visitors get a real feel for what
it's like to be in a tropical rain forest.
The area even has simulated thunder and lightning, realistic enough so they say:
To cause visitors to scream with surprise.
OK. In this next portion of the lesson, we'll drop in on Green World's
butterflies and birds starting on line 13.
Discover the Wonderful World Around You.
Butterflies and Birds.
Among Green World's most notable attractions are its bird and butterfly areas.
The Butterfly Ecological Park is the largest of its kind in Asia and gives
visitors a chance to saunter through enclosed gardens filled with butterflies.
The Butterfly Ecological Park also features an educational area and extensive
displays on other insects.
Scattered throughout the park are small shops and restaurants serving snacks and
meals for every taste.
Visitors with an interest in history and the restoration of old buildings will
find the Hakka Ancient Restaurant of particular interest.
Located in the restored 100-year-old home of the Fan family, the restaurant
serves traditional Hakka food.
The beauty of nature, the fun and all the family activities make Green World a
place you won't want to miss.
Well, we're adventuring in Green World, observing nature probably from a
perspective you never have before.
We looked at exotic, crazy creepy-crawlies and reptiles that you can look at in
their Biodiversity Adventure Area.
You can also get a new perspective on the rain forest from their Rainforest
Skyway.
Well, these all seem to be more high action, more adventure-based.
Maybe you are looking for something a little more relaxed to observe in nature.
You should check out butterflies and birds.
OK. So maybe you want something a bit more relaxing.
Well, you can go to Green World's most notable attraction - it's its bird and
butterfly areas.
That's right.
Now among Green World's most notable attractions are its bird and butterfly
areas.
Now to be notable means something that people talk about and something that
is... we would like to recognize.
So these areas, the birds and the butterflies.
OK. Now the Butterfly Ecological Park is the largest of its kind in Asia,
and it gives visitors a chance to saunter through enclosed gardens filled with
butterflies.
That's right.
Now have you ever been to a butterfly park?
I've been to a butterfly section of a place, and it was actually quite small.
But you can go inside a cage, friends, and watch butterflies fly all around you.
That's right.
So it's enclosed. It's an enclosed garden.
And to be enclosed means it's... it's covered.
Yes, it's... it's covered all around on all sides, kind of like a cage.
But here it's with nets, so the butterflies stay inside.
Now we said that you should go visit it and you should saunter through this
enclosed garden.
Now to "saunter" means to walk slowly and with a relaxed manner.
So if you're not in a hurry, you want to just look at butterflies.
We know butterflies fly away, if you move too quickly, so saunter - walk slowly
and relaxed through these beautiful gardens.
It lets you observe both the plants and the butterflies.
OK. Of course, this is the largest butterfly viewing area of its kind in Asia.
And so you get to see lots of butterflies in the Butterfly Ecological Park.
Now the Butterfly Ecological Park also features an educational area and
extensive display on other insects.
So you get to visit Green World, it's not just to relax and observe but to also
learn.
And that's what this area is for.
It features, meaning it has or it shows you this educational area, and it gives
an extensive display on other insects.
OK. Now something that is extensive has many different parts.
It's very large.
And this is great, a great chance for you to learn about different kinds of
bugs.
That's right.
So if you want to get out, observe nature and enjoy looking around, this is a
great opportunity to do that.
All right. That sounds great.
Well, friends, scattered throughout the Green World Park are small shops and
restaurants serving snacks and meals for every taste.
That's right.
You visited these different sections of the park, you're a little hungry.
Don't worry. The park will take care of you.
Now visitors with an interest in history and the restoration of old buildings
will also find that here at the Hakka Ancient Restaurant.
It will be very interesting.
Wow! That sounds like an interesting spot.
Now here we say it's "restoration" of old buildings.
What does it mean if you restore something or the noun form, restoration?
Well, that means we have taken something that is falling apart and broken and
made it work again.
So these buildings, they've put them back together and made them so now you can
visit this restaurant because it's very interesting.
It gives you a... a nice opportunity to look at something.
Well usually, yeah, you're looking at something that is old but it looks like
it's new again.
And so here this is the Hakka Ancient Restaurant.
So even though the word "ancient" is there, which means very, very old, it still
looks like it's current.
That's right.
And it would be of particular interest to those of us interested in history.
Well, that is our Grammar on the Go sentence.
So let's visit Liz.
Hello, friends.
How are you doing today?
My name is Liz.
And it's time for Grammar on the Go.
Our article today is about Hsinchu's Green World Ecological Farm and how there
are so many different things you can see there.
We read:
Visitors with an interest in history and the restoration of old buildings will
find the Hakka Ancient Restaurant of particular interest.
That's our Grammar Tip sentence.
Today our focus is on the phrase, to find something of particular interest.
It's a rather formal way of saying: to find something to be very interesting
because of a specific reason.
In the case of today's sentence, the writer is saying that if visitors have an
interest in history and restoration of old buildings,
then they will find the Hakka Ancient Restaurant to be particularly interesting.
OK.
Let's have a look at some other examples.
The judges liked every student's artwork in the exhibit, but they found the
foreign exchange student's painting of particular interest.
Or: Felicia loves books, and when she toured the Biltmore House, she found the
library of particular interest.
If you have a copy of this month's magazine with you, be sure to check out
today's Grammar Tip section for more example sentences.
That's all the time we have for today.
This is Liz with Grammar on the Go signing off.
Bye-bye.
All right.
So the Hakka Ancient Restaurant is located in the restored 100-year-old home of
the Fan family, and they serve traditional Hakka food.
That's right.
So you can get out and see this beautiful building as well as experience Hakka
culture.
Well, the beauty of nature and the fun and all the family activities make Green
World a place you just won't want to miss.
That's true.
This seems like a place you can find beauty, adventure, exotic animals and some
delicious food.
That's right.
And it's safe and fun for the entire family.
It's both educational and interesting.
So get the family out and go experience nature.
That's right.
Friends, it's not too far from home so you should take a visit there.
That's right.
Well, thank you so much for joining us as we explore Green World.
Now it's your turn, you get out and enjoy Green World adventures.
Now let's visit the Chat Room.
Hi, Ken.
Hey, Bryan.
Hey, that's a really nice shirt.
Wow! Thanks.
I just bought it a few days ago.
It really looks good on you.
You have a really good taste.
Thanks for the compliment.
But don't forget that "taste" is uncountable.
Oh, right. I should have said you have good taste, not "a" good taste.
You got it, Ken.
But did I get the meaning right?
I think "taste" can sometimes mean the ability to recognize whether something is
good or bad.
That's right.
So if someone has good taste, they tend to choose good things.
Someone can have good taste in food, clothing, music, movies, or almost anything
else.
I've sometimes heard people say that things are in poor taste.
Does that mean that they're bad quality?
Sometimes it does.
But it can also mean that something is rude or offensive.
For example, joking about death to someone whose relative has just died would be
in poor taste.
I see.
Do people ever talk about a person's taste without saying whether they think
it's good or bad?
Yes, they do.
For example, if you say someone has expensive taste, then that just means they
like expensive things.
So in that example, "taste" just means the things someone likes, right?
That's right.
And that definition is also used in the saying: There's no accounting for
tastes.
That means that some people will like things that you find strange or can't
explain.
So could I say something like "Those people painted their living room hot pink.
There's no accounting for tastes"?
That would be a great example.
Hey, thanks for helping me with my English.
There's one more thing I'd like to know, though.
Where did you get that shirt?
I got it from a small clothing store near my house.
I'll get you the address.
Oh. Thanks, Bryan.
(Chinese).
(Chinese).
And we're running out of time.
Goodbye and take care.
