I hope you all had a great break.
Welcome back.
Moalboal isn't just a diving paradise, it's a center for outdoor adventure.
Besides what was listed in the article, there are things like canyoning, caving
and river climbing too.
Now while you're on your adventure, keep an eye open for more of Cebu's exotic
wildlife in the form of monkeys or monitor lizards.
OK. Let's finish up our reading now on line 9.
Moalboal: A Diving Paradise.
Just like the dives, there are tours for people of all skill levels.
For a relaxing day, go to beautiful White Beach.
Although it is less developed than Panagsama, it's a good place for a beach
barbecue!
This beach is quiet on weekdays, but the weekends are much busier.
Go on a Sunday for a taste of a true Filipino beach party!
For such a small place, there's a lot to see and do.
Whether you are underwater or on dry land, Moalboal is a great choice for a
tropical adventure.
So no matter if you want to explore underwater or on land, Moalboal has plenty
to offer.
And just like the dives, there are tours for people of all skill levels for your
horseback riding, river trekking or mountain biking adventures.
OK. So if you are not experienced in riding horses or riding mountain bikes or
going river trekking, friends,
that doesn't matter they... because they have tours just for you.
That's right.
But maybe you're sitting there thinking: Oh, Kaylah, I don't really want to go
on vacation and do just all kinds of activities.
I just want to relax.
Well, Moalboal's a perfect place to do that.
For a relaxing day, just go to the beautiful White Beach.
Ooh. That does sound beautiful.
Friends, this is called a White Beach.
That's the name of the beach.
But it's also talking about the color of the sand at the beach.
That's right.
We have talked about white sand just last month in Florida.
Here you can also find sand in Moalboal that is just as white and beautiful.
And you can just relax and enjoy.
Maybe you just want to sit down and have a nice soda on the beach.
That sounds nice to me.
Well, although it is less developed at this beach than the Panagsama Beach, it's
still a good place for a beach barbecue.
Ooh. Now a beach barbecue would definitely be fun.
We know that a barbecue is when you are outside cooking over either a fire or a
grill.
And you can be cooking vegetables and meat.
So maybe you'd like to get out for a beach barbecue.
What makes a beach barbecue so special?
Well, first of all, you're at the beach, which is beautiful.
And usually it's built over a fire.
People build a large fire ring at the beach and you simply hold sticks with the
meat over it, or put a grill on top of the fire and make your food there.
So it is a great beach for a barbecue because it is less developed than the
other beaches we've talked about.
OK. Now if something is less developed, that means there are not as many people
or as many buildings there.
But you can still enjoy that beach barbecue.
And that means you build a fire at the beach and you have all of that delicious
food there.
OK. So why is this beach so perfect for that?
Well, it's quiet on weekdays.
So maybe you're on vacation and would like to enjoy a barbecue at the beach.
Go on a weekday and you can experience it quietly and without other crowds.
OK. And a weekday is simply Monday through Friday.
So you can go there on a day that isn't on the weekend, and it will be quiet.
But what if you do go on the weekend?
Well, the weekends are much busier.
That's true.
And of course, that's Saturday and Sunday, and sometimes it includes the end of
Friday as well.
OK. Well, what makes it busier?
Well, go on a Sunday for a taste of a true Filipino beach party.
All right. This is a Filipino beach party, friends.
"Filipino" is simply talking about something that comes from the Philippines.
Now remember, "Philippines" is spelled with P-H; but here "Filipino" is spelled
with an F.
That's right.
We say we are from America, so we are American.
If you are from the Philippines, you are Filipino.
Now this is a beach party.
And that's a party held on a beach where there's fun music and food and friends
and fun lights, all kinds of great activities.
So go over on a Sunday to get a true taste of this.
All right, friends.
Well, we've got some more information about this, so let's visit the Information
Station.
Bill, we learned a lot about the great diving in Moalboal in today's article.
We sure did, Bryan.
But you know, there are a lot of other great things to experience in Filipino
culture.
And so to learn about those things, we need to go to...
Information Station.
Mubuhay, everyone.
Bryan, what language are you speaking?
Mubuhay is a word in the Philippines national language, which is also known as
Tagalog.
And it means something like "long life." People say this when they welcome
guests or make toasts.
Oh. Well then, Mubuhay to you too.
Speaking of long life, the best way I know how to live a long life is to enjoy
some good food.
And the Philippines is full of great traditional foods.
That's right. You can say that again.
One of the most famous Filipino dishes is lechon, or roasted pig.
Hmm. If you enjoy eating pork, there's nothing tastier than enjoying a whole
roasted pig.
And don't forget to try a piece of the skin!
It's nice and crispy.
That does sound delicious, Bill.
Well, one thing about the Philippines is that if it gets really hot there...
well, it's steamy hot during the summer,
so locals cool off by enjoying a tall glass of halo-halo.
Hmm. Halo-halo to you too, Bryan.
Very funny, Bill.
Halo-halo is a favorite Filipino desert served in a tall glass.
Halo-halo is a creamy fruity mixture of sweet beans, coconut, yam, cream, shaved
ice and of course, ice cream.
That sounds delicious and colorful.
But after enjoying some traditional... traditional Filipino food, you might want
to take a ride around the area and see some sites.
Of course.
And the best way to do that, Bill, is to hop on the back of a jeepney.
The first jeepneys were actually extra jeeps left behind by the U.S. military.
The locals began customizing the jeeps so that more passengers could ride at one
time.
They also added metal roofs for shade and decorated the vehicles with vibrant
and bright color... colorful hood ornaments and chrome.
That's right.
Today the jeepney is a popular symbol of the Philippines.
And jeepneys are used as a form of cheap public transportation in most towns
there.
I'm glad they're cheap because I want to ride a jeepney right now to the nearest
place that sells halo-halo.
I want one!
An excellent idea, Bill.
Well, there you have it, folks.
It's hard to beat the Philippines for its delicious and colorful culture.
And we'll see you all here next time at...
Information Station.
Now looking back on Moalboal, we know it's just a small place.
But for such a small place, there is a lot to see and do.
That's right.
From diving to shopping to eating, friends, there's a lot to see and a lot to
explore.
That's right.
Now whether you are underwater or on dry land, Moalboal is a great choice for a
tropical vacation.
All right.
Now this is a "tropical" island.
And that means it is in the area of the... of Earth that is most hot and also
most wet.
That's right.
And it has lots of adventures for your both on land and underwater.
So go and experience Moalboal.
Now Ryan, would you like to go experience these kind of water and dry land
activities?
Oh, absolutely.
You know I love diving, and I would love to see these whale sharks.
But I would also have a lot of fun river trekking as well.
That's right. Moalboal has so much to offer.
