Hi, friends.
Welcome to Studio Classroom Worldwide.
My name is Steve.
Food trucks, those little restaurants on wheels have been around for a long,
long time.
But they've probably never enjoyed the popularity that they do today.
The trucks are more convenient than fast food restaurants because they come to
you.
And food truck menus generally offer tastier and healthier meal choices.
Food trucks are a great way for people on the go to grab a tasty quick bite at a
low cost.
Now let's read about one shining star in the American food truck trend, Chirba
Chirba, on page 45.
(Music).
Chirba Chirba: Dumplings on the Go.
The latest star of the American food truck trend.
Want a fast, delicious meal?
Look no further than the food truck parked on the corner!
Recently, food trucks have become a popular source of gourmet food on the go.
They serve convenient, high-quality food at low prices.
One of these mobile restaurants, Chirba Chirba started serving food in August
2011.
Their truck travels around Durham, North Carolina, and stops at different
locations every day.
Hungry food-truck fans can find the truck by checking the Internet for a daily
schedule and even last-minute changes.
Friends, welcome.
I'm so glad you're here.
My name is Ryan.
And my name is Kaylah.
And today we are talking about a BUSINESS article.
Now usually, Ryan, I think the BUSINESS articles can be a little hard to
understand.
But this one is very fun.
And it's very easy to understand.
Friends, it's about food, and delicious food.
We're talking about Chirba Chirba: Dumplings on the Go.
Well, dumplings, we know what dumplings are.
They are one of my favorite Chinese foods.
But we're talking about them "on the go." What does that mean?
OK, friends.
We have something called "Grammar on the Go." You know what that is.
And something that is "on the go" means it's always moving.
That's right. It's always changing.
Well, let's see what this means for Chirba Chirba.
This is the latest star of the American food truck industry, this food truck
trend.
Now what is a food truck?
OK.
A food truck is actually a truck or a large van that will drive around and is
actually like a restaurant on wheels.
They'll show up somewhere and everyone will come to the truck and they'll make
them food and sell it right there.
That's right.
Now you don't get to go into the truck.
Instead the side of the truck opens up and there is a service window.
You can see a picture of one of these Chirba Chirba food trucks on page 45 in
your magazine.
Yeah, with some people on it.
I'm not sure what they're doing there.
But friends, here this is a fast... or a food truck trend.
And a trend is something that is popular that happens usually for a shorter
while.
OK. So we're talking about dumplings.
Let's get started.
Do you want a fast, delicious meal?
Well, I think all of us would say yes.
Well, yes.
Obviously this is going to be an option for you, friends.
You should look no further than the food truck parked on the corner.
We're going to talk about that phrase in just a minute.
But first, that's our Ggrammar on the Go sentence.
So let's go visit Liz.
Hello, friends.
My name is Liz.
And it's time for Grammar on the Go.
I'm at the night market in Hualien today.
And this is a great place to find a fast, delicious meal.
Speaking of fast, delicious meal, that's what our writer asks at the beginning
of today's article.
Want a fast, delicious meal?
The writer then continues with: Look no further than the food truck parked on
the corner.
That's our Grammar Tip sentence.
And today we're looking at the phrase, to look no further.
It just means do not look more than the place that is mentioned.
So today's sentence just means that if you want a fast, delicious meal, you
don't have to go far.
Just go to the food truck parked on the corner.
We use this phrase "to look no further" when we want to emphasize or bring
attention to how easy it is to do something.
And it's usually in formal situations.
For example, if you want to tell people about the benefits of planning a
staycation, you can say:
If you're exploring your options for an affordable vacation, look no further
than your home; plan a staycation.
Or if you're speaking to a group of young volunteers,
and you want to let them know that they can make a difference to society simply
by being helpful in their own community, you can say:
If you want to make the world a better place, look no further than your
immediate community.
So give this phrase a try.
And that's it for today.
This is Liz with Grammar on the Go, signing off, in Hualien.
Bye-bye.
Friends, if you want fast, delicious food, then you should look no further than
the food truck parked on your corner.
That's right. So it's parked on a corner.
We know to park a vehicle means to leave it there.
It's sitting there, staying there.
So if you want to try this declicious food, maybe this truck is a good option.
Yes. And it's "on the corner," that's obviously where two streets join.
And so this might be a place where you can find a food truck.
Well recently, food trucks have become a popular source of gourmet food on the
go.
OK. Now "gourmet" food is high-quality food, usually very delicious, but
sometimes it can be expensive but not always.
That's right.
Now it's interesting that their food trucks... we don't usually think of food
trucks as being gourmet.
Often in the past, we thought of them as being maybe a little dirty, not food
you can trust.
But that's changing with this popular trend.
Yes, it is.
Usually we think of fast food, and especially if it's a truck, it would be even
faster food.
But this is different.
We're not calling these "fast food trucks." These are just food trucks.
They serve convenient, high-quality food at low prices.
That's right.
Maybe you want a delicious meal,
but you can't afford to go to a nice restaurant because you don't have the money
or the time.
But maybe your food truck just around the corner is serving it.
It's cheap, convenient and delicious.
Yes, it's convenient, which means it's very easy to use.
And like Kaylah said, it's delicious, and it's cheap.
Well, one of these mobile restaurants, Chirba Chirba started serving food in
August 2011.
This is only one year old.
This is a very new business but it started serving its food just one year ago,
and we're already talking about it.
It's a convenient and popular new option for high-quality, or very good quality
food.
OK. And friends, like I said a... little earlier, these are kind of restaurants
on wheels, or as they said here: mobile restaurants.
Something that is "mobile" can be easily moved from one place to the other.
Well, let's see how it works.
Their truck travels around Durham, North Carolina, and stops at different
locations every day.
OK. So it's constantly moving to different locations or places.
Hungry food-truck fans can find the truck by checking the Internet for a daily
schedule and even last-minute changes.
Now this makes sense.
If your truck is always moving, always changing locations, how are your "fans,"
your food-truck fans,
the people who love your food and want your food, how are they going to find
you?
Well, this is easy now.
Thanks to the Internet, just take a look on the Internet for their daily
schedule or where they will be every day.
And you can even see last-minute changes.
What happens if it means "last minute"?
"Last minute" means that all of a sudden at the very end of, very close to the
time, they have to change their plans.
We're going to see how you can keep up-to-date with them while they're on the go
after we visit the Chat Room.
Hey. That's a nice-looking smartphone you got there, Ken.
Thanks. I needed to replace my old one.
Hey, speaking of smartphones, how did your wife like the smartphone you got her
a few weeks ago?
Oh. Didn't I tell you?
I changed her gift at the last minute.
I ended up getting her a tablet computer instead.
You did? Hey, what made you change your mind?
Well, as I was driving home that night, I remembered some comments my wife had
made about her friend's tablet computer.
I realized that she wanted a tablet more than she wanted a new phone.
I don't blame her.
I'd take a tablet computer too if I had the budget.
Say, you just said you changed her gift at the last minute.
So when was the last minute?
No, I was not referring to a specific time on a clock.
The "last minute" simply refers to the time right before an event, like a
deadline, occurs.
Oh, I see.
You know, I have many memories of writing my college papers at the last minute.
Me too.
I guess most students can't resist finishing things at the last minute.
And fortunately, most of my last-minute studying paid off.
That's great to hear.
And nice use of the adjective form, by the way.
You might also hear people talk about the eleventh hour.
The eleventh hour?
Yes. The eleventh hour is a figure of speech referring to time that is nearly
too late.
If you work until the eleventh hour, then you're working until the last moment
before a deadline.
I see.
So can I say that you switched your wife's gift at the eleventh hour?
Of course. That's a great example.
Thanks, Bryan.
