OK. Welcome back from the break.
If the third installment in a series is called a threequel, then what should we
call the fourth installment, a fourquel?
Or perhaps a quadruel?
Well, whatever you call it, it's what our next fun summer movie is:
the fourth film in the popular Ice Age franchise, Continental Drift, starting on
the top of page 14.
Summer at the Cinema.
The fourth Ice Age film, Ice Age: Continental Drift continues the adventures of
Manny, Diego and Sid.
The prehistoric pals float on an iceberg and encounter numerous new creatures,
including pirates.
The prequel The Amazing Spider-Man takes audiences back to the teenage years of
Spider-Man.
British actor Andrew Garfield stars as a young Peter Parker.
The plot has Spidey taking on a villain called The Lizard.
What's not to love about a chase through New York City?
In the thriller Premium Rush, a bicycle messenger is pursued by a policeman.
He wants an envelope that the messenger is carrying.
See a movie this summer - you'll be glad you did.
(Music).
All right. We've been seeing some very exciting films coming out this summer.
And now we're going to take a look at just a few more that you can see real
soon.
Well, this one continues an animated adventure of Ice Age.
That's right.
And this is the fourth film in that franchise, Ice Age.
And this one is called Ice Age: Continental Drift.
Now this continues the adventures of Manny, Diego and Sid.
Well, we know those are the three main characters from the previous movies - a
sloth, a saber-toothed tiger and a mammoth.
So they're a definitely interesting combination.
Right. These are all animals that existed in prehistoric times, so we call these
prehistoric pals.
So let's take a look... a little look at that word there, prehistoric.
Well, "historic," we see the word "historic" in there, meaning history.
And then "pre-" at the front of a word means "before." So this word means
"before recorded history." So it's prehistoric.
Right. The time that existed before people wrote down history.
And these friends, they float on an iceberg and encounter numerous new
creatures, including pirates.
So we know what an iceberg is.
We talked about that a couple of months ago when we talked about Titanic.
So they're floating on this giant block of ice in the ocean and run into all
kinds of crazy characters.
Exactly. So now we're seeing this movie; it's going to be very interesting, I
think.
It'll be quite the adventure.
Well, it's not the only amazing adventure we're going to go on this... this
summer.
There's another one coming out about Spider-Man.
That's right. And this movie is a prequel.
Now a "prequel;" we've talked about a sequel a couple days ago.
A prequel is a movie that comes... it comes out after the original movie, but
the story takes place before.
That's right. We can see the P-R-E at the beginning of the word.
Just like "prehistoric," it means it comes before.
So this will give us the beginning of the Spider-Man series.
The Amazing Spider-Man takes audiences back to the teenage years of Spider-Man.
That's right. And this is played by the British actor Andrew Garfield.
And he plays Peter Parker in those movies.
Now the plot of this movie has "Spidey," that's referring to Spider-Man, taking
on a villain called The Lizard.
So it will be fun to see Spider-Man in his teenage years before he became
Spider-Man the hero.
Right. And he's taking on, or fighting, this character called The Lizard.
Now what's not to love about a chase through New York City?
Well, we're not talking about Spider-Man, we're talking about our next movie
Premium Rush.
Now this is a thriller, so it'll have a lot of action and excitement in it, is
about a young bicycle messenger who is being pursued by a policeman.
That's right.
That means he's being chased by a policeman.
And he wants that envelope that the messenger is carrying.
So you can go see any of these movies this summer, and I'm sure you will be glad
you did.
That's right.
There's plenty of adventure out there for us this summer.
Now let's watch the trailers for Ice Age: Continental Drift.
(Music).
