Hi, friends.
Welcome to Studio Classroom Worldwide.
Thanks for joining us.
My name is Steve.
Summer vacation is just around the corner.
So if you're thinking about traveling anywhere, then stick with us because we've
got some tips and ideas we think will add some fun to your trip.
Now I have to warn you, whether you're traveling domestically or
internationally,
our author is going to challenge you to do something new, which means you might
have to step outside of your comfort zone.
"What's a comfort zone," you ask?
Let's dive into our lesson "Tips for a Terrific Trip" on page 38 and find out.
Tips for a Terrific Trip.
Try a few of these ideas to make your trip even more enjoyable.
It's vacation time!
You're looking forward to traveling and seeing famous places and beautiful
sights.
But instead of just following a tour guide around, step out of your comfort
zone.
Here are a few ideas to add fun to your travels:
Learn 10 phrases in the language of the country you're traveling to.
That way, you'll be able to communicate a little with the locals.
Most people love it when you try to speak their language.
Travel with a close friend or family member whose company you really enjoy.
You'll be able to share adventures and talk about them for years.
Oh, hello, everyone.
Thank you so much for joining us.
My name is Ryan.
And my name is Kaylah.
And we are in today's TRAVEL article.
Now I love traveling, I love the TRAVEL articles.
This one is a little bit different, though.
We're not traveling to a place.
Instead, we're talking about ways to take a terrific trip.
Yes. Something that is terrific is wonderful, it's fun.
And many of us think we know how to have a good trip.
But you might want to follow these tips to have an even better and even more
enjoyable trip.
That's right.
So we're talking about tips to take a terrific trip.
That's a lot of Ts.
Yes, it is.
And these are some... actually some very useful tips, Kaylah.
It's vacation time!
It's May. It's the summer.
It's time to go and travel.
Now you are looking forward to traveling and seeing famous places and beautiful
sights.
So maybe you get to go out and explore.
You get to go find a new place, check out what's going on and enjoy some famous
places and beautiful sights.
Yeah. Something that is famous is well-known, and many people want to see it or
want to enjoy it.
And so you're planning on going and seeing um, maybe something famous.
That's right, or maybe a beautiful sight.
A sight is a place you would go visit, a location that has something interesting
there.
Or maybe it's just pretty to look at.
That too.
Now instead of just following a tour guide around, you should step out of your
comfort zone.
Now Ryan, I don't like following tour guides.
I like going out on my own and making my own adventure.
And friends, I think you should too.
Now a tour guide is great when you want to learn something.
That's right. Now a tour guide is someone who, well, takes you on a tour.
They'll take you places and tell you interesting things about it.
That's right.
So instead of following a tour guide... when we use that phrase, "instead of,"
means in place of something.
So, in place of using a tour guide, step out of your comfort zone.
Right. "Instead of" could mean you don't do one thing, you do something else,
so.
Don't follow a tour guide, you should use something else.
Here we see it's: Step out of your comfort zone.
What is a comfort zone?
A "comfort zone" is the idea of where you feel most comfortable.
So where are you at ease?
Where do you find peace and rest?
Now that area, step out of it and try something new!
A comfort zone usually doesn't mean something very relaxing; more, Ryan, it's
something that you get stuck in.
Yeah. Something that isn't new, something that you keep doing over and over
again because you are used to it.
It's comfortable.
And most people like to be comfortable.
But if you step out of that comfort zone, you'll find many new things and have
many more experiences.
That's right.
So "step out" means walk away from it.
Get away from the tour guide.
Try something new.
And here are a few ideas to add fun to your travels.
OK. The first idea is to learn 10 phrases in the language of the country you are
traveling to.
This is a fantastic tip if... especially if you're not using a tour guide, which
I definitely suggest, you need to know some phrases.
For example, if you're at somewhere and you need food or you need a bathroom,
you're going to want to ask in their language.
Do you know any phrases that you might want to use in another country?
Well, you mentioned finding food or restroom, um, I know "Donde esta el bano" in
Spanish.
And that means "Where is the bathroom?" If you're in a Spanish-speaking country,
that would be an important phrase to know.
Well, learn 10 new phrases.
Yeah. Now a phrase is, of course, a sentence or a group of words, something that
you would want to say.
And since it's so easy to travel to so many different countries that speak
different languages, you want to learn these phrases in those languages.
That way, you'll be able to communicate a little with the locals.
And "communicate" means you can talk to and interact with them successfully.
Yeah. When you're communicating, you are sharing information with people whether
you are talking it or writing or maybe even singing.
Who knows?
You are sharing information with someone.
And it's easier to do that if you speak their language.
And most people love it when you try to speak their language.
Even if the grammar or the pronunciation is not exactly right, people do love it
when you try.
Now I know that from experience.
Anytime I try to use Chinese when I'm traveling around Taiwan, people tend to
really enjoy that.
That's true.
Now let's move on to tip 2, which is, I think, my favorite tip.
Travel with a close friend or family member whose company you really enjoy.
Now this makes a trip so much better when you're with someone you enjoy being
with.
That way, you'll be able to share adventures and talk about them for many years.
Yes, that's right.
You're enjoying their company.
You're enjoying being around them, and like it says, sharing stories and
adventures with them for a long time.
It makes much... makes it much more fun when you can talk about your adventures
when you come back from your trip.
Just make sure it's someone you don't mind spending a lot of time with.
That's right. Now let's go visit the Chat Room.
Excuse me, Ken. We're about ready to close for the day.
Oh, is it that time already?
Sorry. I wasn't paying attention to the time.
That's OK.
It's good that you're here to keep me company.
You know, this time of the day is the loneliest time in the library.
So I've been keeping you company?
Yep. And I enjoy your company.
Well, I hope I'm a good company.
Uh, Ken, you're good company.
If you're a good company, then you're a business.
Oh, right.
"I'm good company." Thanks for correcting me.
Hey, can I say I'm in good company?
Sure. But that has a different meaning.
If you say you're in good company, then you're not the only person in a bad
situation.
Oh. So it's like being in the same boat as somebody else.
Exactly.
Well, I should get going as I have company coming to my place in a bit.
Oh, you have visitors.
OK, I'll pack up right away.
