OK. Welcome back from the break, friends.
Now with spring officially just a few days away, our author is encouraging us to
do some spring-cleaning,
not just in the environment we live in, but our minds, bodies and emotions too.
The first step is to reconnect with nature.
Let's find out now why we should make time to be under the sun on line 10.
Spring-cleaning.
Walk to work or walk your dog.
Take a book to the park, sit under a tree, and read.
Outdoor activities will provide the healthy vitamin D your body needs after a
long winter.
... with friends and loved ones.
Call a friend you haven't seen for a while and meet for lunch.
Take your family on a hike.
Plan, prepare, and eat a meal together as a family.
Loving relationships refresh our emotions.
OK. So we want to reconnect with nature, and we can do that by going outside
enjoying the sunshine.
You can walk to work or perhaps walk your dog.
Now that's a good idea.
If you live close enough to your workplace, walk to work instead of taking your
car or bus or maybe your scooter.
Take time to walk.
Enjoy the fresh air.
It's good for your body, good exercise.
And the sunshine is a good thing.
OK. Now I want to talk about this phrase, walk your dog.
If you're walking your dog, it doesn't mean you're walking on your dog or
something weird like that.
It means you are taking your dog outside so that your dog can walk with you.
That's right.
And dogs love that.
Dogs need that.
If you have a dog, you need to make sure you take them to the park or somewhere
they can run around to get their energy out.
Now it's also good for you because it gets your energy out, it gets your
exercise in as well as spending time with your friendly little animal.
Yes, your friendly dog. OK.
So you can also take a book to the park.
Now Kaylah just said you can take your dog to the park.
You can also take a book to read at the park, and you can sit under a tree and
do that.
Now Ryan, I try to do this sometimes.
I like going to the park to read, except I get there and there's people, and so
I get so distracted I never get my book read.
I end up just watching all the people with their dogs going on walks.
But it still gets me outside and in the fresh air, outside under a tree and
enjoy nature.
Yeah. I know you love nature, and I do know you love people too.
So those are both great activities for you.
Actually, I like taking a book to the beach.
Since my home is close to the beach, I like to sit in the sand and listen to the
waves as I read a book.
Wow. That sounds very nice.
Oh, it is.
Well, it's a great way to reconnect with the nature as well.
Now outdoor activities will provide the healthy vitamin D your body needs after
a long winter.
So I said earlier that the sun gives us vitamins, and here we see it is vitamin
D.
That's right. Now a "vitamin" is something natural that your body needs to
survive.
And so there are many different kinds of vitamins.
And they use letters to talk about those kinds of vitamins; so this is vitamin
D.
That's right.
It says... again, we have that phrase "long winter." It does not mean that it
was longer than usual.
It means that it felt like a long time.
And your body doesn't get as much vitamin D because you're not outside.
So that's a great way to get out.
Exactly. Yeah, so those are some ways you can reconnect with nature.
And now we see you can reconnect with friends and loved ones.
Now this is good.
Sometimes we lose touch.
We don't keep in touch with people during the winter, we get too busy.
We don't want to go outside.
It's too cold. It's too wet. It's too snowy.
You want to stay inside.
So, what can you do? You need to reconnect with your friends and loved ones once
the spring has come.
That's right. You can call them.
You can maybe call a friend you haven't talked to or seen in a while and maybe
meet for lunch.
Or take your family on a hike.
So this one here, take your family on a hike would connect you with both nature
and family.
Look at that, two in one!
That's right.
Now if you're hiking, that means you're walking outside, maybe following a path,
and you can enjoy nature, and in this case, enjoy other people at the same time.
Or you should prepare, plan and eat a meal together as a family.
So decide what do you want to eat.
Plan ahead.
Now Ryan, did you ever do this with your family?
Oh, yeah. We love to go out and perhaps actually go to a park as well.
Bring some food with us.
Bring some games that we can play and enjoy each other's company.
I really love doing that.
I remember in the spring, my dad would open up the grill in the back yard so we
could start hanging out as a family.
We'd all work with my mom in the kitchen or outside on the porch with my dad.
It was a great way to reconnect and to get outside after being... you feel
stuck... you feel stuck inside in the winter.
Yeah. That's why it feels like such a long winter.
And so this is a great way.
As you heard Kaylah and I are talking about, you can reconnect with your family
and also reconnect with nature at the same time.
Go have a meal outside; go to a park.
Go in your back yard.
This is a wonderful tip.
Now why is this good for us?
Well, loving relationships refresh our emotions.
Yes. If something is "refreshed," that means it feels better.
So maybe if you have a cold drink after working in the sun, that would refresh
you.
It would make you feel a lot better.
But this is refreshing your emotions.
That's right.
You feel refreshed.
You feel clean. You feel you have more energy.
If you're... another example is if you're out and you're maybe on a run or
something... you go for a swim you go swimming.
That's a refreshing feel.
So these are two physical things.
Now what does it... how can we translate that into emotions?
Well, it makes your emotions feel better.
It means that you are now connected with your family and your loved ones again,
and you feel loved.
It makes you feel better.
That's right. And "loved ones," we should've said earlier, but that refers to
more of your friends.
So maybe you're not actually related to them, but there's someone you love and
care about.
Maybe co-workers or friends that you have, you want to reconnect with them as
well as your family.
Yeah, it could be your friends and your family.
And these are both things you want to spend more time around.
Many times people spend too much time on the Internet or on Facebook, and they
don't connect with their friends or family a lot.
And so this is a wonderful thing that you should do.
That's right.
Now friends, write to us at letters@StudioClassroom.com and tell us how you plan
on refreshing and reconnecting with your family and friends.
What do you do?
Maybe we haven't mentioned your favorite way of reconnecting.
Write to us and tell us, we can try it as well.
OK. So Kaylah, which one do you think you are going to do first?
Are you going to reconnect with nature or reconnect with friends and family?
I'm going to say probably nature.
I think I'll go home and throw my windows open and let some of that fresh, warm
air inside.
I'm going outside!
I am excited to enjoy some nature but also my friends as well.
Friends, we will see you tomorrow.
Right now let's watch this skit.
Spring officially arrives tomorrow.
Yes. Springtime brings a promise of nicer days.
So let's throw open the windows and enjoy some warmth.
Wait! Before we throw open the windows, let's clean them.
In fact, let's clean the whole house.
Well, why stop with just the house?
Let's clean ourselves too.
Well, of course.
After we clean the house, we'll both need showers.
No, no, no. I mean let's bring order to our mind, our body and our emotions.
Spring-clean our mind, body and emotions?
Yes. First, let's reconnect.
Reconnect?
Yes, reconnect with nature.
Let's take a walk and spend time in the park.
Well, good idea, dear.
Sunshine provides vitamin D, and our bodies need that!
Yes. And let's also reconnect with friends and loved ones.
Yes. We can take a family hike together.
Oh, and maybe have a meal together too.
Excellent idea.
Loving relationships refresh our emotions.
Yes, they do, dear.
And besides, reconnecting is a lot more fun than cleaning the house.
Oh.
(Music).
Hi, everyone. I'm Michelle.
(Chinese).
And I guess that's all the time we have for today.
I'll see you soon. Bye-bye.
